I absolutely understand how insommia can ruin a persons life. I have been taking Stilnoct for 10 yrs on and off, they have been the only medication that has worked for me. But I also to try to do without them until I am exhausted. Because I don't work anymore getting up early is not usually a problem. Even so lack of sleep makes me feel so rotten. I found though that taking Stillnoct for several days at a time, seemed to make the problem worse in the long term. I found myself unable to ever sleep without them so I tried to just have them for a couple of days and then go through it for a few more. I noticed it's mostly stress and worry and my mind never switches off.
I have a new Doctor now who refuses to give me any more. I don't know what I'm going to do! I know it's because I have been on Tramadol for over 5yrs and because it is an opium based analgesic, taking them both together is very dangerous, but my last 2 Doctors trusted me to be responsible. I am not likely to do that am I, even by accident! I have a lot of pain in bed and I can choose which to take. Even before the Tramadol I was having to take various medicines, some such as codeine gave me hallucinations with the Stillnocte. So obviously some tablets do interact. Having said that, I absolutely do need them for those days when I have to get up for something important, or when several days without sleep has just become too much. Now I just lay in bed each night for hours on end and often getup without having had any sleep at all. How can anybody carry on like this? know they are a crutch and I do try to get by without them a lot of the time, but I always knew they were there when I needed them. How am I going to manage without them, I've only got 5 Left! Maybe another change of Doctor is the answer.

H,i I have been taking Stillnocte for 20 yrs but obviously not regularly. It is probably the best sleeping tablet I have ever taken, but it does have negative side effects and I believe the body and mind becomes addicted. I think this is why Doctors now appear to be more reluctant to prescribe it.

I am also an anxious person and lay in bed at night worrying.

I still suffer from insomnia regularly and have noticed that stress and worry is mostly responsible. I try to read or play mobile games but am often still awake in the morning having not had a wink. It probably make more sense to take a tranquiliser to reduce stress and nerves, though Doctors are now not prescribing these so much either because of their addictive nature.

If I take Stillnocte for more than a couple of days I find that the problem gets worse, so I carefully monitor it and only take it when something important is going on the next day. Then it`s great. It doesn`t matter if you can miss a night out without sleep, especially at weekends, because I`ve found that the body eventually readjusts to normal sleep pattern, for a little while anyway.

In the past I found that long term use had an adverse effect on my health. I noticed my hair and skin change, I became gaunt looking and had problems concentrating. I also became forgetful and often stumbled because of not looking where I was going. I also had green urine which means it`s probably affecting the kidneys or liver.

The Doctor also warned me that it also interacts with other medication and can be dangerous, even fatal. It is especially dangerous taken with opium based analgesics such as Tramadol. An overdose can result in a coma.

In fact Stillnocte and other prescribed medicines should not be taken with any herbal type supplements because the chemical structure is altered and can be very dangerous.

I`m sure your Doctor has your best interest at heart, so if you show him that your'e not too dependent on them, he will be happy to prescribe them whenever you ask for them.

I have found also that it is difficult to wean yourself off them and so if taken regularly they should be reduced gradually. Just take them when you really really need them. Believe me you will eventually get some normal sleep.

I have been on long term therapy with stilnoct and I have found myself staying up and taking more pills and doing just wacky things. at one point I thoght people were at my house for a fashion shoot and I had to do the make up for them but obvioulsy it was just me. It's sorta making me sick feeling. I do things and don't remember. I write cryptic poems and stories and blogs that are crazy and wonderful all at the same time. Anyway, I have decided to just take the right dose and hide the rest so I don't go over board anymore, but, I definitely feel dependant on them for sleep. I don't like it but that's how it is for now. I just have to stop abusing them. Thats the bottom line and I can do that if I put my mind to it!!! Anyone else admit to this????

I think stilnoct is one of the worst drugs ever to be sold legally! I was 18 years old when I was prescribed them by my doctor at 10mg. After a short while I began to need more tablets to sleep otherwise I would be awake seeing and hearing and doing the weirdest things. Long story short, by the end of that school year I had pretty much dropped out of school and had even woken up naked one morning after sleeping in the shower covered in my own blood after taking way too many tablets without realising. (I have no memory what so ever of doing anything harmful to myself) I was a good kid all my life never got in trouble, had no desire to intentionally take drugs and wanted to go to college.Having stilnoct pretty much put a pause on my life for 2 years and definitely effected my mental health. Im 23 and have not taken any for almost one year and my life is now going perfectly although I still often rele want some. I will never as long as I live ever take anything even close to a stilnoct tablet again. I'm not saying that your husband will have the same experience as me but if he is walking around talking to his kids and making no sense, that sounds very familiar to me so take good care of him and make sure he gets help if you think he needs it.

I'd be very grateful if  anyone who has managed to come off Stilnoct after long-term use or who has failed to do so would share their experiences on the forum.  Also I would like to know if others have experienced "sleepwalking" or strange, zombie like behaviour under the influence of Stilnoct/Ambien (zolpidem hemitartrate). Has anyone had an accident or injured themself after taking it? I have personal experience of this medication and am also doing a research project on it.

Many thanks
