I would like to talk to you about low pulse rate. I ask this because my 17 year old has just returned from the regular school medical check up and it seems that his pulse rate is around 50. Doctor said to him that he has nothing to worry about but I am not that certain. Is there any possibility of a disease or something else here? Does anyone know?

Well, let us say that low pulse rate in today's medicine is regarded as a good thing. Of course, this goes only if there are not any disease or illness symptom occurring. Many people who are active in sport, both amateurs and pros, have a low pulse rate. It can get down to around 40, even less. Is your son engaged in any sports activity? There is slight possibility that there might be something wrong with his heart, but I assume that the doctor would have noticed that.
