I had that done to my l4-5 in april of 04. My leg pain was gone right after surgery. but now i am in pain all over again and my disc is again protruding. It sounds to me as if you have some nerve damage. It could take you longer for the pain to lower. One thing my doctor told me that some patients are better right away and some take a few months to feel a difference in pain. I was better right away but 6 months later i was getting pain again. but everyone is different I have known others that had the surgery that have never had troubles again after sugery.

I HAD THIS SURGERY DONE AND I HAD PAIN AFTER BUT IT EVENTUALLY WENT AWAY. I AM ABLE TO WALK NORMAL NOW AND I FEEL GREAT. I DO GET MUSCLE SPASMS EVERY ONCE AND A WHILE BUT IF YOU HAVE DEALT WITH THE OTHER PAIN YOU CAN DEFINATELY DEAL WITH A LIL MUSCLE SPASM THAT DOESN'T OCCUR OFTEN.

Hi Jerry, I am at the end of week 5 of recovery of lumbar laminectomy. I had leg pain still just last week. Also the numbness in my leg (foot to knee) is still present. It was always in my left primarily and now its in my right. My Doc says its my nerves still adjusting to the surgery. Give it more time, just when u think u feel good, youre still recovery from major surgery. Some people have to have it done again, some always have the symptoms, and some recover w flying colors. Im giving myself a full 2 months until I try to go back to work..getting a little better everyday.. Good Luck to you, dont rush it.

Had the surgery 5 days ago. My doctor tells me that the numbness is usually the last symptom to go away. I do not have pain. It seems that recovery can be anywhere from instant to months. All I am concerned about at this time is doing more damage. I will waite for my follow up in 3 weeks and in the time between walk and do the exercises that have been given to me.

I had a lumbar laminectomy March 24, 2014.  Doctor took off 30% of my disk and I had 2 pinched nerves.  I began having severe pain shooting down my left leg a few days after having the surgery.  Then the following Monday I called the doctor and he prescribed me some methleprednizone.  I just took my last pill this morning and I have yet to have total relief from the leg pain.  Prior injury back in October, which was what let me to the surgery, I was very active and exercised 6 days a week.  I am very worried that I won't ever be back to normal and that this pain won't ever go away.  Any suggestions/advise?
