I would like to know what are mamograms and which types?
There are 2 types of mamograms: screening mamogram and diagnsotic mammogram.
Screening mamogram is an x ray of the breast. It is used to detect breast changes in women who have no signs or symptoms of breast cancer. With screening mamogram it is possible to detect tuny deposits of calcium in the breast. This deposits are sometimes clue to the presence of breast cancer or a tumor that cannot be felt.
But if woman if for example having breast implants, screening mamaogram will not do – in that case for the purpose screening mamogram is used, diagnostic mamogram will be used instead.
Another type of mamogram is diagnostic mammogram. It is used to evaluate changes, detected by screening mammogram. Diagnostic mamogram is a mamogram, used for diagnose of unusual breast changes (lumps, nipple discharge, size and shape of breast ...). It takes longer than screening mammogram (more x rays form different angles).
