Absolutely stay away from this drug.

I took it years ago and still have not recovered from the awful side effects. It caused me to lose my period for almost a year, I had blurry vision for weeks, dry eyes, severe thirst, extreme dizziness, and severe mental symptoms. My eyesight was damaged, and I developed food sensitivities and numerous other problems I cannot even list everything that this drug did to me.  The worst thing was that at the time a lot of these symptoms were not known (or at least the doctors acted as though they were unknown). Now there is clear information that this drug DOES affect the nervous system and is especially dangerous for women and children. I may have even developed an autoimmune disorder because of it.  Stay away!

I took this drug for rosacea year round since 2006 upon the advice of my dermatologist.  I went into complete liver failure 7 months ago and my doctors say it was from long term use of Minocycline at which time I was taking 100mg twice a day.

I know your post is older. How did your son turn out? My daughter has the same thing going on for over 2 months now.

I know this is an older post, but how did you turn out? My daughter has been having the same problem for over 2 months now. Doctors said it was minocycline but that it should be gone now.

I've been on minocycline for a year and if your doctor said to take it with a meal or after you should! Because I find whenever I take it without something in my stomach. That's when I get the side affects. Other than that I have had no problems what so ever! It's worked great for me and I've only had nausea or headache from taking it in an empty stomach or with dairy products.

Took Minocycline (50mg/day) for two weeks of a 30 day cycle. By week three I had very bad hive breakouts. It was medicine induced urticaria, and like others have said, the hives will move around the body randomly. I did independent research on the topic and felt I needed to head in to the doc. I was prescribed prednisone to help combat the Minocycline induced auto-immune disorder. The rashes have been persistent through the first week of prednisone treatment, but now at week two, they are being more rare. I will never take another tricyclic class antibiotic again!!!!! Hopefully my liver is intact!!!! Also, this drug is widely published as being very effective at getting deep into body tissue, hence the reason recovery frim an allergic reaction may take so long, but I'm no doctor.

I was prescribed Minocycline from my dermatlogist due to having a dermatitis breakout on my chin. I was on the medication for 20 plus days before I noticed I was having an allergic reaction to the medication.  I had a severe allergic reaction of tightness in my chest and hives.  In fact, I have been off of the medication for two weeks and I am still suffering from the allergic reaction. I just started a second treatment regiment of Prednisone due to tightness in my chest and hives. I having been trying to research how long most people suffer from an allergic reaction from this medication but I have not found any answers. All I know is I am in excruiciating pain!!

I agree!!! I can't believe this medicine is approved to help children. I am a grow women who took minocycline for 40 days and got really sick. Now off it 2 months I still can't walk right(take in mind I was running 5ks before this medicine ) blurred vision, extremely dizzy so I can't drive, hard to concentrate the feeling of walking on a cloud and many more symptoms. If something can be done about this I am all in. My life has been takin from me...I am hoping to still recover from these symptoms but as time goes on I lose hope.

I am taking minocycline for a skin condition (pimples). It is an antibiotic. If I have a cut elsewhere will it help keep infection at bay? Mary
