When I first got my IUD the doc's told me that I had to be in a steady relationship. Well I'm no longer in a steady relationship and I have a few f*ck buddies. I really need to know if this is safe, I mean other then the obvious STD/STI, HIV/AIDS. Can anyone else tell me if their doctors told them this and if they know why? I really don't want to have to give up my IUD because this is the first birth control that has worked for me but if there are health risks involved then I would like to know.

Any contraception has side effects. I think what he was getting at is this - to be totally sexually active with different partners will substantially increase your changes of STI's and anyone of them is not only life long BUT if it causes cervical problems or spreads up your vagina and into your uterus you will be in HUGE trouble pertaining to your IUD!! One of the biggest - even though rare - problems with IUD's is the body entrapping it!!!! And with a severe infection or an STI's that chance goes up leaps and bounds. And that is not only a life long problem but a life threatening one!! It is your call of course wether to be so sexually active, but you have to be aware that you could inadvertanly be playing Russian Roulette with your life!!!! A dear friend of mine almost died of her UTI becoming embedded and infected, so hon be careful ok? Good luck and health!

YOU should get checked out too! And because this is YOUR body, YOUR health and YOUR future, you need to ALWAYS make your partner wear a condom! STD/STI's have increased by 500% in some areas of the world within the last 5 years!!! This includes the "old School" ones of Ghonorrhea and Syphillis! These were thought to be so rare they were rarely mentioned, but where I live just north of us Syphillis increased by 200% in 2 years!!!!! So be careful OK? And If your partner doesn't want to wear a condom TOO BAD!!!
