Hi, folks. I have recently been with a doctor since I gave birth some period ago. My doctor told me that my baby had ABO incompatibility. I really don’t know what it is. He explained me something, but I am not sure what it is. Can someone help me with some additional info? I would appreciate it.

Hi, there. ABO is referring to ABO system of blood types. There are four basic blood types: A, B, 0 and AB. If a mother and a child are different types, a mother can make antibodies during pregnancy. Usually this does not affect baby’s health. However, if the Rh factor is different in a way that mother is Rh negative and a child is Rh positive, then there can be problems. First pregnancy can go without side effects, but other pregnancies are dangerous. However, I think your doctor didn’t mean on this case. Ask him to explain this on the plain language. Good luck!
