Hi, I'm so glad to see someone else is experiencing the same thing I am and that its somewhat normal. I've worried about this as long as I can remember. Only difference is I don't stop... ever. Walking is sometimes awkward and eating can be messy.

I am now 23 years old, the only one in my family who "rocks". I hear story's from other family members about how I came out the womb rocking and how they knew I would grow out of it when I hit my teens...never happen. When I started school my mother would have to explain to my teachers that I rock back and forth, and side to side, but it wasn't long that I learned it wasn't normal and getting teased by the other kids forced me to stop doing it in the classrooms. They thought I would stop when I got married...didn't happen. I stopped for a few weeks, just to ease him into it, but after the 2nd month it was game over and my rocking resumed. Of course I stopped doing it when my husband is in bed with me but even now he says I do it in my sleep some nights; I mean I be knocked out and he say my body just starts moving. It's more of an earge then anything for me. It's like I need to do it when I'm stressed, mad, sad, happy, listing to music, watching TV, driving (haven't had an accident yet), or even excited. I do suffer from anxiety attacks, and I do have a sleep disorder, but other then that I'm healthy. So if she doesn't grow out of it, don't worry, she probably still have a normal life. I graduated, going to college, work full time, married and planning on starting a family soon. The best thing you can do is be optimistic and understanding. Hope my little life helped. Lol

I am 70 now and a very accomplished adult. I rocked throughout my life. I quit when I was 52 and the desire just left me. I used to rock while watching TV or listening to music or before school. It was conforting and I used to daydream while rocking. I loved my habit.

I am in middle school and I still rock in my seat during a lot of my classes and it annoys my friends so much however I do find it useful when there is a big test coming up in language arts because I also have what is most likely an anxiety disorder, but that theory is yet to be proven.

I used to rock up until about the age of 14. I have a daughter now and she has somehow picked this up from me. It is definitely for comfort and I understand why she does it. My wife used to think something was wrong lol. Completely normal.

I am fifteen years old, and I've been doing it my whole life. I don't know why I do, and I don't know why I can't stop. I find it embarrassing. I don't like people seeing me. I rock back and forth on my couch daily. It's just something I've been doing my whole life. I'm glad I'm not the only one

Same for me! One of 9 kids and in the middle of the family. Think I needed more attention so rocking and head banging to music really helped. Went on uuntil I was 18. Now At age 71 i hum all the time and rick myself to sleep.

I grew out of it when I was 19. For me, it was a comfort until I found a regular meaning to my future career. Try not to let it worry you if it does? The older I got, mode responsibility and goals broke me from the so called habit of comfort. Blessings!

I’m 60 yrs old - I’ve rocked my entire life. I’m intelligent, productive, successful and I love to rock – perhaps the reason I love boating in the ocean making me very seaworthy. I started as a baby banging against a couch rocking hard and then my father bought me rocking chairs and built me a swingset in my backyard. I only sit in rocking chairs and own five at a time in my home. I probably rocked in the womb. Rock On !!
