Japanese fertility specialists have found a new way of making women and their partners happy by freezing human eggs instead of freezing embryos as it is done at the moment.

The researchers developed a quick freezing method called Cryotop method and it shows more promise than the technique being used now.
The eggs are being frozen in a special solution and stored in liquid nitrogen. Such approach prevents ice crystals from forming therefore preventing egg damage.

The researchers managed to freeze 111 eggs up till now and successfully defrosted 94.5% of them. In the IVF method, they managed to achieve 41.9% pregnancy rate while cryotop method achieved 42.5 % pregnancy rate.

Such approach to helping deal with infertility would be beneficial to those women undergoing chemotherapy that threatens to impair fertility. By freezing their eggs, these women have chances of becoming pregnant later in the future.
