I kept mine in for the entire 5yrs, I loved it! Had cramping the first day it was put in, bleed for a couple weeks and then it stopped. My periods after that were lite (no cramping :-D, mood swings, bloating) then they stopped altogether. So I had about 4yrs of no periods, there was very very lite spotting. Would've got another one put in but we are trying to have a baby. Anyway, I had mine removed, had a lite period that lasted 3 days then nothing. It took about a month in a half before I started bleeding again (thought I was already knocked up :-( ). Still no pain or discomfort. It was heavy (not "need to change every 15mins" heavy, normal heavy) for a couple days then lite enough to just use a panty liner. So far its been about 3wks and I'm still bleeding, it alternates between lite and heavy. I'm just hoping it will stop soon so we can get back to baby making ;-)

I think the complications are age related. Most younger people had positive responses to Mirena unless it wasn't inserted correctly. Pain associated to the placement (stomuch pain not cramps) can be solve by having your Dr. adjust the positioning. Quick question: Women who had servere side affects to getting Mirena, did you also have a lot of symptoms when you were pregnant? I think that might have someting to do with it along with age ( not a Dr. but just guessing).

Hi Ive had the mirena since November 2009, and so far so good :-D.No side affects and the best period ever. I think it is related to age,Im 41 and have two children. In my opinion I dont think its suited for single women who havent had any children.
