More than one in three American adolescents are physically unfit, which represents one of the risk factors for heart disease. These statistics don’t show bright future for the young Americans.

The 5,315 test subjects were asked to achieve 75 percent to 90 percent of their age-predicted maximum heart rate on a treadmill. One third of adolescents and one eight of adults were in bad physical shape. Those who did poorly on the treadmill also had high levels of bad cholesterol in their blood, low levels of good cholesterol, high blood pressure and large waists.

Such bad picture of American nation suggests a potential trend of increasing illnesses and death from chronic diseases.
