Hi. I was diagnosed with mono. I was prescribed with oral prednisone. However, I have experienced some side effects of the med. I would like to take OTC mononucleosis medication. Are there any OTC mono meds?

Hi. Antibiotics are not effective in treating mono. Mono is caused by virus. There are some products available without a prescription. You can purchase them at the UHS pharmacy. You can take acetaminophen or ibuprofen. They will reduce pain and fever. If you have severe symptoms, alternate these meds every two hours. If you are older than 19, you can take aspirin as well. You should drink a lot of water to prevent dehydration. Rest a lost and avoid alcohol. If your spleen has been enlarged, avoid strenuous physical activities.
