You are absolutely correct. Of course Opiates cure depression because they give you a false sense of security. From what I read the brain has a natural production of opioids if you flood the brain with more your mood will improve BUT the synthetic opiods are so addictive you will inevitably end up like the story above or just best case you are severely addicted to opiod pills. You dont even want to imagine the anexiety and depression once you discontinue taking them. Trust me and this other guy!!

Hello, I have been anxious and depressed for a long time. I have used several medicines, and some of them helped me, but not enough. I still have a problem to talk to people, especially when there are more than two persons involved in conversation. I am thinking of using oxycodone, but I am not shore if it helps with anxiety and depression. Has anyone with the same condition as me used this drug?

I use oxycodone for pain management and anxiety/depression. I can tell you that it works great for me. The combination I use is Percocet and Cymbalta... and I have seen much improvement over where I used to be.

I am pretty sure this would work for anyone. I have chronic pain from a badly broken wrist and mild depression, and I gotta say the drug combo I'm doing is very helpful.

hello, I have similar issues can you contact me to discuss +'s & -'s of this medication combo?
Thanks!

I have used percocet for other reasons such as surgery, but I have noticed a dramtic effect on my depression and anxiety. I feel far more relaxed and functional. can't gaurentee every one will have the same experience. and good luck finding a doctor who will perscribe them for that use.

I have been diagnosed with treatment resistant depression (12 yrs duration), Generalized anxiety disorder and social phobia. It has ruined a military career and an academic career. I find as I read the posts a lot of confusion.  First, especially with benzodiazepines and oxycocet/oxycodone we must distinguish between physiological dependence and addiction.  Both of these drugs produce physiological dependence, your body requires then when they are used regularly over a period of time and you will experience withdrawal stopping them. They DO NOT necessarily produce addiction.  The difference is addiction is present when there is a craving for the drug, a tendency to escalate usage, to get them from other sources than your doctor, to take them not as prescribed etc. I am precribed, by a psychiatrist (whom I am completely honest with, if you cannot establish a excellent therapeutic relationship you need to find someone else) 150 mg sertraline, 100 mg lamotrigine, 3 mg/day clonazepam (dependence producing benzodiazepine) and percocet (acetaminophen + oxycocet), also dependence producing. I have been taking clonazepam for about 11 years now, I do not crave the drug, I do not escalate the dose, I am dependent, but not addicted.  Before reaching this decision we tried all the conventional means, but they all failed to control my anxiety. It is the same with the percocet, I do not crave it, I do not escalate the dose, I take it as prescribed, dependent yes, but not addicted and it is the only relief I have found for depression.

There is much evidence that shows that for people who do not respond to SSRI's that it may be that there is no dysfunction in the aminergic neurotransmitters, but in the endorphin neurotransmitters.  Endorphin is a contraction for endogenous (produced by the body) morphine. No, the body does not make morphine, but makes substances with a similar effect, hence opiates have binding sites in the brain.

IMHO this is not largely publicized because pharmaceutical companies have no interest in generic's, there is no money to be made there.  They are looking for a new patented 'blockbuster' drug that will drive profits.  Was it a coincidence that oxycodone was phased out when the patent was about to expire for OxyNeo, which is under patent?

So, although long term benzodiazepine use is not recommended by the psychiatric associations, in practice, in Canada about 68% of psychiatrists do use them this way. As for oxycodone I'm sure the number is much lower due to the lower awareness among physicians.

Work with your psychiatrist, forge a good therapeutic alliance, remember that trust is earned, be honest with them about your drug use and experience and you will be better off and can make informed decisions about your treatment.

Be well

Oxycodone was created in 1916 in Germany
It makes depression worse after a few weeks. The high is fun but the higher u get the lower u feel when it stops. I highly recommend this drug in chronic pain issues but depression not really. TV and the press have really put a bad name on this and its not a bad drug used correctly. I use it for chronic pain for 5 years and it has saved me from tons of ER visits. I would recommend not using this drug if not necessary especially recreationally and illegally.

I have been on Oxy for 2 months now, after having Dual Knee replacements (1 month apart). I can tell the Oxy is starting to have an impact and that is how I came to find this Forum. Doc says in another month or so I will be coming off of it and to expect a less than enjoyable experience. Any suggestions for someone preparing to go through that? Thanx in advance! Mark

Lol oh 5mg's well you should be ok. You might get mild like flu symptoms and be a little cranky but that's a very low dose so you should be ok. I quit cold turkey after several years of about 320mgs a day and I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.!!! Lol well maybe on my worst enemies...

Oxycodone works partially as an agonist at the delta-opiod receptors in your brain, which is what causes the mood lift. New antidepressants which target those receptors specifically are currently being developed as a novel treatment to combat treatment-resistant depression, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome. Delta-opiod receptors are distinct from the mu-opiod receptors that are classically acted upon by opiod derivatives, in that delta-opiod receptor stimulation seems to produce a mood lifting effect, whereas mu-opiod receptor stimulation produces a strong analgesic effect. Oxycodone has an affinity for both receptor sites, whereas other opioids such as morphine bind more preferentially to mu receptors.

I'm very interested in this discussion. And I realize a lot of the posts on here were years ago but myb someone is still hooked in here. I've been depressed with pretty severe anxiety, insomnia and agoraphobia on and off for many many years. I've always been into naturopathy and wholistic health and have tried everything in that world and it does make such a difference but the motivation to stay on that path and the anxiety to even leave the house are so debilitating still that like others have posted I'm looking into possible pharm help. I tried lexapro once and had an adverse reaction, it increased my anxiety to such extremes that I was taken off. That was about year or two ago. And i didnt want to try anything for a while afyer that... So a few months ago a friend gave me a 1/4 of a Percocet one evening and I finally felt normal. I couldn't believe it. I have friends in recovery and i asked them about it and they laughed at my 1/4 dose. I've tried drugs over the years and never have had that desire to keep doing them, I've never gotten addicted to anything before... however the need is so great to relieve this anxiety and depression that i want to look at that, But truthfully I would trade just about anything right now for how my life has been for so many years.

In the past month the anxiety has gotten so bad, attacks etc. so my sister in law gave me some xanex to try and I took a half last night. It helped, i felt a lil loopy but good. Felt kinda down this morning but over all better I think. Anyway I'm going to get an appt with a dr next week hopefully and I'm interested in feedback. Another friend said that Klonapan works better for her than xanex. I have a sensitive constitution, eat organic and other than this pretty chemical free except the occasional Advil or glass of wine. Actually wine makes me kinda sad tequila and rum I'm ok with, no ups or downs but i really dont drink much. I struggle with eating too much at night sometimes to try to calm me down and that just makes me more miserable and agoraphobic. Also have tested high for ADD and have been curious about adderall or Ritalin as well. So anyway i kniw there is a lit here but Advice would be so helpful. Thanks :)

I know this post is old but found it while I was researching stuff......the other user is correct...it 100% will cure anyone's depression or anxiety BC of the euphoria. I too suffered from depression and severe anxiety since a child. I am now 32 and guess what.....I am a recovering opiate addict. It was only drug that worked for me..I was happy, could talk to people in public, socialize etc....loved myself on it..felt great! Another thing was ....I was a big sweater...as in...BC of my anxiety ..when I'd get nervous...it was soooo obvious. When I took oxy...I NEVER had that problem. It was like I was normal!!!! But it is true...itngrans a hold of u quick....never did H....but was up to about 20 30mg oxy a day. Wanna see depression???? See what your life is like after using this for a period of time. It will ruin your life!!! Be careful! And try NOT to take every day! Taking this is the BIGGEST REGRET in my LIFE!!!!
