I have just read your post, you didn't indicate what age group you are. I am late sixties. You really have had the full works. Since writing my first piece above I think things are improving. The tendonitis and pins and needles in my right arm have nearly disappeared. I have been out cycling, only light distances -3 or 4 miles at a time but sufficient to establish that my balance is returning. Walking is still the area that is not the same as before the problem, but still better since surgery. I get pain turning my neck at 45 degrees and towards the end of a heavy musical engagement, which I think is brought on by the back pressure of blowing for along period of time. I was interested to learn of the time it took for you to heal from your first surgery. I am just coming up nine months from mine and the biggest problem is fatigue. I am going to bed earlier and, although sleeping soundly without pain or discomfort, I still wake not really refreshed and have to take a nap around mid-day
If I do a heavy out of town gig and get back late, it takes me the whole of the next or possibly two to get my energy back. This of course could be partially due to Anno Domini!! It's hard to tell that which is age related and that which is due to my surgery. I'm so sorry to hear that you are in worse pain now after surgery, it must be a very frustrating time and I hope matters improve for you.

In reply to everyone- I had an ACDF done on c5-c6 in 2003. It healed well and quickly, but I was away from office work for a year. Between 2004-2014, I was an assistant director at a preschool. Even though in an administrative position, I was only on a computer 3-4 hours a day. Last August, I began a course at a Technical Center in Medical Administration, where I am at a computer 6-7 hours a day at school and sometimes 2-3 hours a night at home.  I am beginning to have pain in my neck and right shoulder almost daily and I am beginning to think it has something to do with my being at the computer so much.  I guess I am just lookng for opinions.  I had complete faith in my neurosurgeon in 2003.  I'm sorry so many of you had less than perfect experiences and are still having pains from your surgeries

Hi BamaGirl. My healing was a rapid process, but when writing and arranging music for long spells at the PC I too get some pins and needles down the right arm and hand. I am now nine months post op. and still get intermittent pain when playing and looking down at a music desk. I met a lady yesterday via a friend. She has had 4 discs attended to at the same neuro unit in Southampton that I did. A fantastic department. I wrote to my neuro-surgeon and received a satisfactory reply indicating that "neck crunching" and some discomfort seems to be par for the course at this stage but saying that if it persists then possibly an x-ray may be scheduled to see if the cage is still in the correct position. I know that surgeons are not in favour of too many x-rays. I must say that playing wise I have just done five lengthy engagements consecutively and some gardening which required some moderately heavy lifting and lo!............the exercise seems to have produced a beneficial effect. The lady with whom I was discussing our mutual ops. reminded me that one must not look down if avoidable and read at eye level as much as possible. This is fact because when I look down to read or work, the pain is considerable, but passes when I return my head upright - oh well - all the very best

Doesn't have to be a neurosurgeon. A orthopedic surgeon works was well. Best to find one that specializes in the spine.

I had c5/c6/C7 fuzed Sept 30 . Numbness is down in my hands and tingling is pretty much gone. I spent 2 nights in the hospital and relaxed for the first few days. I am still sleeping in a recliner because it is easier than positioning in a bed. The husband waited on me for a few days but when he went bak to work I was able to get up by myself. I could get food and drinks just no reaching, heavy lifting or anything like tht. I was mobile when leaving the hospital. I had more fear of tripping than anything. I was given a therapist and a nurse from the hospital a few days a week food the first 3 weeks. I still have some pain but more from surgery than anything. . I have a hard neck brace worn all the time even in the shower. I still have 14 days to go before I see the doctor. I think the survey helped lots just not sure what my total recovery time wil be. Still on pain medicine but an trying to take less. . I just have a tendacy to do to much around the house and you will feel it. Best of luck. I pray it all goes well for you

Hi, my name is Debbie I had ACDF c5 c6 surgery in Nov 2014. I thought I was doing ok up until about a month ago. I had to find a job that worked around my special needs son after my alimony disappeared. I started cleaning houses and walking dogs. With in a week I had so much pain in my left arm near the tricep. I used mineral ice, heating pad with little to no relief. I realized it was my neck when I was scrubbing a shower using my right hand and the pain in my left arm brought tears to my eyes. The only explanation is my neck is causing it. I lost my insurance because of the loss of my alimony so don't know what to do. The pain is at times unbearable. I feel bad for anyone going through this. I thought after a year I would be in the clear. This pain is worse then the pain I had before the surgery. I can only hope it is temperary. If your considering this surgery read up on it and ask a billion questions. I thought nothing would ever get me down now I'm not so sure! Blessing to all !
