Most likely it is because your posterior ligaments are readjusting to the height following surgery.

All i can tell you is that you have to move your body excersize as offten as you can it will help you heal faster if not you will deteriorate father rember your mucle will compensate and allow some relife off of your nerves two years ago i could barely walk today i can get around with pain wich is a true blessing my doctor were complete stright up with me. I just had surgery August 15 2017. Today is one week since surgery. When I woke up in felt so good there was no pain. The tightness in my neck and shoulders was gone. Towards the evening I began to have muscle spasms really bad down my rib cage and left arm. I came home two days later and was using pain meds ice heat and essential oils. The spasms finally stopped and now I still have nerve pain. The doctor prescribed steroids which has helped and I'm feeling better. They insure me that because the nerves were so badly pinched that as they wake up it is painful but will get better. The doctor stated I may have flares here and that. But given all of this I still feel 90 percent better than before surgery. It takes time.

I wake with headaches, i lose my balance when i stand along with my knees buckling and ears feeling like being stuffed with cotton, as well acassional nausea. Raise my arms above my head. They go to sleep, she mentioned some of this would continue till the swelling goes down. I do not know if I can save web site but I look forward to any replies. Thank you.

I am just under 6 weeks from c3-c4 ,c5-c6 and c6-c7 removal and fusion. I was cleared to go back to work at 4 weeks but I am in pain constantly day and night. My Dr. will not give me pain meds any longer and I never sleep! My neck and shoulders hurt like hell all of time. I just don't think everything is right with my surgery. If this is normal, I am in trouble.

I had surgery July 19,17 (c5 and c6) and I am having more pain in my left arm, numbness, weak to the point I cannot hold a plate in my hand, popping in my neck, pain and shocking that goes from my neck down my arm. The PA stated he doesn't know why and just want me to take steroids???? This is frustrating and painful can anyone relate?

If only 6 weeks from surgery to go back to work that to early . It takes 1 year for discs, nerves and ligament all to heal. You will heal slowly. You haven't even gone to physical therapy yet. I would go back to work go on compensation for 12 weeks..

I had surgery on 7/29/2017 and returned to work exactly 3 weeks later C-5- C-6 / C-6 -C-7. While my issues pain, weakness and numbness have not gotten any better. (i know patience is not my strong point, I know it can take a year or more) Original estimate on back to work was 6 weeks but I needed mentally to go back to work.

My advice drop the pain meds (THEY DID NOTHING FOR ME) and use CBD if you can. CBD helps me sleep and even though I never sleep through the night the CBD has helped me get a few hours sleep at a time, before that i didn't sleep at all. Meditation helped me too.

Good luck to you

Please allow yourself to stay laying down for weeks as much as you can! This is an extremely painful surgery for some (me) I wouldn't want to scare you but I was given no choice as I would become paralyzed as I was told if I didn't have it done asap. I had mine august 9th and now it's September towards the end and I have some pretty rough days! One pain pill every 2 hrs didn't even help my pain but I begged for something to help my nerves and to sleep and was given I think a generic Valium and it saved me literally as I was at the end of my rope with depression setting in. I hope my pain is better as I'm told it can take me 2 years to get complete fusion due to the severity. Please get a great neurosurgeon who is compassionate because mine was NOT!!! Your in my prayers but I am pleading for you to heed my warning.. do not do anything or it will set you all the way back even trying to make my bed set me back to hospital in an ambulance so just allow yourself to not worry about anything but your health and healing! Bless you and stay positive !!!

If your in the hospital for days FIND A NEW SURGEON,

I’m fused from C4 to C7 and not only was I walking within minutes out of recovery, I was in my own bed 26hrs later..... ATCDF is the most least painful surgery there is...... Tylenol isn’t even needed.... worst pain you’ll have is the incision.... and if u can’t handle a little scratch then I suggest ya just ask them to paralyze u from your neck down.... you’ll be pain free..... spoon feed but painless..... STOP BEING A PISSY..

I had ACDF 5-6 one month ago. I am now suffering from weakness, insomnia, pain, diarrhea, UTI and depression. They say my MRI looks good. I try not to take Oxycodone which was prescribed minimally to me. Doesn't seem like it helps anyway. I worry that I should have had surgery.

I had the same fusion 3 years ago. You are over doing it. Give your neck/nerves time to heal. Don't push/pull/carry anything for 4-6 months. Always use your body to push, keep items you are carrying held close to your chest, and don't pull. You will have times you feel like you are regressing, especially the first 4 months. But it will get better! You will feel a lot better at 6 months and really good at 1 year and great at 2 years. I feel great but still have to be careful of how I sleep-neck position, amount of time spent driving, the way I position myself to watch TV or talk to people-turn body to face and don't keep neck turned at an angle, don't hold a phone with your shoulder ever, don't carry heavy groceries, etc. Lifting your arms above your head will get better with time- at about 6 months. You will heal, but it will take time and patience. Stay positive, each month you will feel better!! I have no regrets about having the surgery, it works...but it takes time to heal. Good luck!!
