Hello,

Hope somebody could help me with advice until I get my insurance straightened up and see the doctor. Recently, maybe a month or two, from the moment I wake up I start feeling dull and sometimes throbbing pain at the base of my skull. At first the pain was located mainly on the right side so I was pretty sure this was all caused by my bad posture while I sleep, however, the pain also sometimes appears on the left side.

I’m a woman, 42 years old, haven’t had any major health problems or injuries – except the one problem I described above. For the last few days pain is worse than before and I feel that I need some treatment for it, but I really have no idea what might have caused it. I tried taking OTC pain killer, it didn’t help much with the pain. Any ideas?

I read your post but I have a question.  Does the pain subside as the day goes by?  Is it worse at the time you get up?  It could be you need to try a new pillow.  It's an inexpensive way to see if your neck pain alleviates.  You can also try putting a cold compress at the base of your neck for 10 minutes.  This will help reduce any inflammation in the tissue.  Try taking pain meds on a scheduled basis, like every 6 hours and see if the pain improves.  Hopefully this helps you obtain some pain relief until you get to the doctor.
