Hello,

I just had my daughter 3 months ago and decided to get Mirena. I have had it for a month and I have SEVERE pains in my side and in my uterus and ovaries. My stomach is protruding more than normal and I have an increased appetite. What is wrong??!!!

Your pelvic pain is probably the result of a combination of things. First off your uterus is still shrinking and tightening up from pregnancy plus the hormones in the mirena can cause some cramping. This is to be expected, but should go away. The hormone level is very low (won't even show up in blood work) but is centralized to the uterus. As for your other problem- your stomach is swollen because, you eat too much. Increased appetite can be avoided by exercising and eating properly. I find that most people who claim to have an increased appetite are leading sedentary lives. Mirena will not cause a person to over eat. I have a child, now 3, and mirena.
