I'm 24, male, stopped smoking at 18, started in January but stopped 10 days ago. I cycle and walk a bit, but work long hours on the computer.

Since I was 17 I have had heart palpitations. I have had 3 EKGs and an Echo, failed the first, retook it 5 minutes later and passed. Other 1 was done in an ambulance, apparently anxiety attack and was fine, oxygen level was 99% and the other was done about a month after that when my doctor was concerned. Passed that. I also passed the echo, was fine.

I've been having heart palps of different kinds. Some days I get non, some days I get a good few. The palps feel like skips sometimes and then like runs other times. It's like my heart is stuck in the skipping part. It has never lasted longer than 5 seconds but it feels horrible.

Its like a flutter in the chest. It will happen once for a second, then straight away, then it will make you sort of pause what you are doing, and then it will return to normal. I've had them for years and doctors insist I am fine. Tests show I am fine.

I've done my own testing before, once I noticed sugar (energy drink) would cause it, so would a lot of caffeine. Alcohol don't cause it, but dehydration does. I've noticed that.

I'm not worried, but I'm asking should I be? Ive had these for ages, never fainted or anything like that. A month a go I cycled 10 miles (this was when I was smoking aswell), so no doubt I'm in fair shape. I'm not over weight either. I think sometimes anxiety can cause it, but a lot of the time I am in a happy mood and it just happens.

Should I just forget about it and learn to live with it?

Im 21 and female, but i hav been having heart palpitations also. They have done 2 EKG's chest x rays etc and told me i was fine. I talked to my GP and he hooked me up to an E Cardio. Its this portable arrythimia monitor and you wear it all day everyday for about three weeks. Yes its annoying to walk around with this thing hooked up to you 24/7 but it helps the doctors figure out what is happening with your heart at all times of the day. Turns out that the bottom part of my heart squeezes harder then the top and they have schedualed a stress test to further evaluate it. But i would mention it to your doctor and see if its something that would be available to you. Good Luck

Hi there, can you tell me a little bit more about this ecardio that you have on you? What lead them to do that? And how does it feel to wera it? Can you still exercise and shower ande verything as normal? Let me know because I'm very interested in this!

They put me on it because i was/am having unexplained pressure on my chest (Feels like there is something sitting on it) along with random palpatations and chest pains. As far as wearing it, it is a little annoying, there are two sticky pads, one goes on the upper right side of your chest, and the other as close to your heart as possible. They attach wires to the pads and to the monitor. The monitor is a little big, but can still fit in your pocket or on your belt (comes with a belt clip.) They told me not to exersize but im sure each case is different depending on what they suspect the problem to be. The only time your allowed to take it off is when you shower, the monitor is not waterproof and if you break it your out 900 bucks. Pretty much what the thing does is monitor your heart at all times of the day, the monitor sends a signal to a satelite, which sends it to a technician who reads your heart pattern. If something is wrong and they think you need to go the hospital they call you, if they cant contact you then they call the EMTs. They also call your doctor. I hope that this answered your questions, let me know how you do :-D

i'm going through the same symptoms ... and i jog too ... yesterday ran 12 kilometers with out any problems

as u just said .. i went through alot of tests .. ecg .. echo .. and they said i was fine .. i even had this 24 hour test .. they said i was completely fine and nothing is wrong with me

i searched the internet for weeks to find out whats wrong with me ... i found what they call SADS ... Sudden Adult Death Syndrome which is caused by some heart diseases that cannot be examined by the ecg and echo test ... only if the palpitations accured while you wired .

in december 2008 .. i traveled to jordon and i went through what they call "study" and the doctor said i have extra electric cells in my heart ... i went through an ablation ... and i'm supposed to be fully recovered after that .

unfortunatly .. i'm still having those palpitations .

sometimes ... my heart start beating very fast followed by eneven heart beats .

and when i feel cold .. i have those palpitations .

all you need to know ... these palpitations is not a life threating if you were above 40 years old ... but for young adults like you and me ( i'm 21 ) it's a life threating and it causes sudden death .

you really need to see an electrocardiologist who knows about sads .. otherwise .. they will tell you the same thing .. nothing is wrong with you ... it's just in ur head -_- '

if i found anything new about this ... i will let you know ;-)

Wow, that is very serioustimes! I'm glad to hear that you at least don't have to wear it in the shower. Is there a timer on it? I mean I bet since they only let you take it off for a period of time, do you have to take it off for a set period of time? Let me know. this is fascinating...

im not sure if it has a timer on it, or if it can tell how long i took it off for. all i know is that my doctor told me to only take it off when i take a shower. but it sends him a print out of my hearts activity daily so that he can see how im doing, or if he sees something that is serious but not life threatening. that way he can call me and tell me about it. tuesday is my last day wearing the ecardio so hopefully they will find out how to make my symptoms stop.

Let me know how it goes on Tuesday, okay? I only thought there might be a timer since you said that it goes to a satellite and I wondered why they don't call 911 if you unhook it while you're in the shower since it would appear like you've gone into cardiac arrest. Or did I misunderstand that?

Thats a good question, im not sure how that works. I have been having more palpatations within the last few days which kinda freaks me out. so im going to talk to my doctor on tuesday and see if i can keep it for another week, as annoying as it is, i do feel more secure with it. I go for a stress test and echo on the 30th, so we'll see how that goes.

That sounds like a pretty good idea. I will wait for your post on Tuesday to see how everything went. I hope that it turns out well for you. No wait, I KNOW it will turn out well for you! :)

So my doctor agreed to let me keep it for another week. He says he saw the palpitations and also some first degree av block, and is going to relay the info to my cardiologist. Stress test is on the 30th, so we'll see how it goes. At least we're getting somewhere with this.

Hi there, I guess by this point you've already taken the stress test. Can you tell me how that turned out for you? I'd like to hear how you're doing! Thanks!

I did take the stress test, they said that the EKG part looked good but we're waiting for the results of the echocardiogram. i should be gettin the results sometime next week. my doctor is a DO and he has been doing osteopathic manipulations on my back, he thinks that the palpaltions were caused by a verterbre pushing on my spinal cord. it seems to be working, i havnt been having many palpations but the pressure on my chest is still there. so we are going to continue with the manipulations and just wait for the results of the echo and see where to go from there.

got the results of the stress test / echo and everything was normal. i go see my doctor tomorrow, so hopefully this will give him some sort of idea what could be causing my chest pressure since we know that it is not related to my heart, which is a great relief.
