The other day i had a pelvic examintation with a male doctor. I have had an ultra sound and a couple more examinations similar to this, all with females. I just wanted to get a few opinions!, as ifelt quite uneasy, having this examination done with the male doctor.
When i first entered the room, sat down the doctor started talking to me, he wasnt paying full attention to my face, and more to my chest! After the examination was completed, the doctor started talking to me, he sat on the end of the bed where i was laying down, this was quite a long chat lasted aprox 15 mins, i was still undressed on my lower half. Even though you do have a blanket to cover yourself i would of thought he would of talked to me when i was dressed again. He also placed his hands on my knee caps several times when talking. The blanket wasn't covering all of my belly, so i went to cover up with the blanket, the doctor then did this himself for me. Whilst this talk was going on, he again a few times payed quite alot of attention to my chest area.
When the talk was over he and the nurse left and went out of the curtains, so i got dressed again. The doctor then started talking again, carrying on the talk outside of the curtain. This i felt a little bad as i would of liked him to complete the talk to me.
I maybe over -reacting but i just felt very nervy, as all the other exams i had done the doctors talked to me after i got dressed, standing up facing towards me, or sitting back in the chair, not sitting on the end of fthe bed, and not through a curtain!
Be grateful for any opinions!
I am having some problems still and am concerned, I called the hospital 6 days after i had the examination done, and was told the doctor i saw is on annual leave. I called again this morning, and the receptionist was very quiet and didnt answer when i asked if he is still on annual leave as i would prefer to see the same doc, she kept me hanging, came back and said to see someone else.
This is very odd i find!

HMMM!!! Very interesting! I assume there was a nurse there ALL the time right? If so she might have been uneasy and made a complaint and he has been fired or put on probabtion! When our "spidey senses" are on and we are uncomfortable, EVERYONE in the room can feel it! You know when you go into a room and you can tell someone has been fighting "you can cut it with a knife"? This is the same with your situation! I had a terrible incedent several years ago, with an OLD doctor who put his hand in my just sewn vagina with no gloves or lubrication!!!!! NO nurse, I bled all the way home and was in agony! It is AWFUL! I have had GREAT male OB/GYN and also gret female ones and also bad ones! It just depends on the doctor! I asked a good male doctor "Why are you in Gynecology?!" He said it was SO interesting and considered a REAL challenge! Which I understood!
IF he has been let go for innapropriate behaviour - because you wont be the only one feeling like you did - then they will NEVER tell you! and also, ALWAYS listen to your senses, IF he/she makes you feel uncomfortable with their hands on your knees - you ask them to rmove it or you do!
Regarding your problem, what problems did you have 6 days later?

i am a husband, and i have had a lot of bad experience with my wife being examined by male doctor. i think it is wrong to go to a male gynecologist or obstetrician or male anything that has to do with my wifes breasts or privates. we finally had a long talk about it after the last time i could not eat or sleep because of the way it made me feel. she agreed not to go to them, and to alway request a female doctor in the emergency room if it wa required to get undressed. i dont now how it got started in the first place, and i think the only reason my dad allowed it on my mom is becaue men did not know what the exam was in yesteryears, but now we are allowed to stay for the exam and we have the internet, and now we know what the doctor get to see and how he sees it. so yes as men we are against you, oh male gynecologist!

I just read an article on the some website and I would never got to a male gynecologists again. The article is entitled: "Gentlemen Don't Look Up Ladies' Skirts"
The author has obviously researched the subject and provides many interesting facts. The author even says that the AMA admits the sensual nature of the exam!

It's kind of sad though, that a man can have a true passion for science and health and genuinely be turned down by a patient because of his sex! But then we ask why woman get treated that way in the job fields! Do you think a man is comfortable with a woman looking at touching and examining his insecurities and or privates?

I'm not too fond of having a man touching me there. When Obamacare caused my family doctor to close up, my wife insisted on getting a female doctor and that was fine with me. One nice thing is that her finger is much smaller than his. The bad thing is that with the Obamacare guidelines for Medicare I will only be getting her finger every five years where he used to check my prostate every year.
So to answer your question, I'm a lot more comfortable with a woman examining my "insecurities and or privates". The RNP at the VA is female and she checked that when I first signed up. She also brought in a female med student once to practice on me. Maybe it's just me but it doesn't bother me at all.

My wife recently had to find a new doctor, and she elected to start seeing another male doctor. I do not have a problem with it, so far she has had two complete examinations since she started seeing him, within the very first month. I'm not sure why, but I'm sure there was good cause. My wife is a legal secretary she works with and around men all day. Her doctor appointments are always after 3.00pm when she gets away from the office. My wife is always dressed nice usually skirts or dresses with heels. maybe somewhat shorter than other women, but I like it and approve. I do know the men in the office find her quite attractive. So I feel sure her doctor does also and that's fine she is my wife and I'm secure and do not mind if other men find her attractive. I wouldn't believe them if they said they didn't.

I am never at ease when I have to go to my gynecologist. I can't avoid experiencing sexual arousal from being seen in the nude but I tough it out and try to move on. I also take pride in my appearance so I avoid older underwear and make sure I get rid of any undesirable body hair before my visit. I also shower right before heading to the doctor. My husband is very supportive.

Totally agree with you that women should seek out female doctors for female exams. Unless the intent is to have sexual arousal with the doctor there is no reason for a woman with any modesty or dignity at all to go to a male doctor. If you do the research online the abuse and negligence in the medical profession runs rampant. Husbands and wives should both get educated as to what’s going on in those offices.

It is a known fact that thousands of cases of medical molestation occur every year. It is also a fact that 98% of the time it is from a male doctor and not a female doctor. Females are wired differently than men and in my honest opinion have far more dignity and respect for the human body.

If you don’t feel at ease going to a male gynecologist and you admit to being sexually aroused why in the hell have you not switched to a female doctor? What you are doing is actually infidelity and you lack all respect for your marriage and your husband.

I'm with you. In fact a male doctor wrote a book on why women should NOT see a male gynecologist. One CANNOT take the male mind and thoughts during the exam
