My husband takes 3 500 mg metformin each morning. Very large tablets and very hard to swallow. He was unable to keep any water down and had to upchuck the water. After 4 hours we went to emergency room. They gave him a tonic of unseasoned meat tenderizer and ginger ale in a solo cup and had him sip threw straw. Within a minute the pill let loose and slipped down his throat.

Oil defiantly helped, I still feel the discomfort but that's because it was in all night. Try the oil :)

The olive oil totally worked. I ate some bread for good measure too. Thanks

Yeh the bread thing really works. I just choked on a huge fit c pill after eating rice cakes with tahini ( a very sticky substance ) and it felt like it was stick there for 10 mins or so after much wretching and half puking. Only thing that relieved the discomfort afterwards was eating bread. Even hot water and juices didn’t clear it initially. THANKS FOR THE TOP TIP.

Omg I was a numpty and tried swallowing a chewable vitamin c pill and eventually found myself here.

Eating a piece of bread helped SO MUCH. I had drank so much water, upright, flat on the floor, side ways. Nothing. Soon as I ate the bread—done. Thank you.

I took my pills before bed. Ate breakfast the next morning, then gagged on toothpaste. The pill was the first thing out of my mouth. Very weird! Any ideas anyone? Did my pills get stuck in my throat?

I was told by an 80 year old to turn your head 45 degrees to your left and then swallow. That was the solution for pills getting stuck in my throat. I guess the turn changes the anatomy of the throat which allows the pills to go down with no restriction.
