I had L3/4 open laminectomy 3 mos. ago. The first week it felt like I had a softball in my left buttock and shooting pain like a knife into that softball . This went on for about 2 months and was told walk, walk walk. Muscle relaxants only made me sleepy .At my follow up I asked about the lump and pain and burning and tingling and was told by the surgeon he did not know and jokingly said maybe I needed a deep buttock massage. He set me up for p/t which I started after his follow up which was 8 weeks after surgery. I have now gone 5 times and in the interim the pain started to go down an inch or so down my left buttock and upon sitting of more than 15 minutes I get pain and can't straighten up my body because of leg pain. Yesterday my p/t told me to call my surgeon because she did not think it was muscular pain and seemed not to help. Am now waiting for a reply. I If I get a reasonable reply I will let you know. In the mean time feel better soon.

I had a Lumbar Laminectomy w/ 3-fusions 15-months ago and am dependent on a cane. I have stepped up rehab walking backwards in a pool in chest deep water for 1-hour plus 7-days a week for the last 3-months. Little progress. Post surgery my surgeon told me it would be 50-50 I would walk again. My white flag is about to go up. Depressing.

I am 75 yrs old and just had the surgery lumbar laminectomy with fusion for L2 - L5, on January 16, 2023. So far, so good. using brace and wearing a bone stimulator contraption 4 hours a day. I told my neurosurgeon I have been feeling sweezing sensations in both legs and he said its nerves coming back alive. I am confident that he did a good job and is looking forward to getting around again more ably.
