My wife gave birth to our son 4 days ago, and ther is a conical piece of tissue about 2 cm in length exposed from the back of the vaginal opening. The doctor that stitched her up said it was normal and would receed when the swelling subdued. The swelling has gone down considerably without and recession of the tissue in question. I am curious as to the nature of this tissue and worried it could come to cause her health problems in the future.

I am 10 weeks postpartum and have noticed the exact same problem. Intercourse with my husband is painful and the tissue is still visible making my vagina odd looking. Can some one tell me what this is?
