What are the worst side effects that can be expect during therapy with predinsone? My 17 years old son has asthma and has to take corticosteroids in treatment. He has to take 20mg daily. I have heard that predinsone is the best drug for asthma, because is the most powerful anti-inflammatory drug. What is the risk of its using like?

Serious side effects of prednisone occur with higher doses and prolonged treatment. Two weeks of using prednisone can not be harmful. The most serious side effects are retardation of growth in children, ulcers in stomach, thinning of the skin, growth of facial hair, impaired wound healing etc. Prednisone has katabolic effect on proteins and that is the pattern of the worst side effects development. It also suppresses immunity that way, because antibodies are made of proteins. As I said, these disorders are not likely to occur in short term using of this drug. Asthma can be successfully treated with beta agonists either.

I was on 60mg of predinsone and after about aweek I went from normal me to very angry and very aggresive tendencies. I landed up in the emergency room of a hospital because of the predinsone. I still feel some of those angry tendency. I had never taken 60mg before. I have taken 40mg and lower off and for years. At the hospital they gave me ativan and brought me back to the moon not earth. I was way out there. My doctor's nurses gave me a mental evaluation and I passed. I feel I am still suffering from that episode
