Vitamin D deficiency is most commonly the cause of protruding chest bone, also known as "pidgeon chest" and usually seen during the pubety years. It is often associated with a growth spurt and usually in young teens who are tall. Consult with your doctor. If a nutrient deficiency is determined, you may need a supplement of Vitamin D-3, K-2 and Calcium. Vitamin D-3 & K-2 can be found in combination. Calciums are not all the same. Don't take Oyster Shell Calcium. A good Calcium Citrate - Malate MCHC can be found at most health product stores. Don't buy calcium products in grocery stores or discount stores. The quality is usually poor and undigestible. My own son had "pidgeon chest" and a good Vitamin D-3, K-2 & Calcium supplement caused it to self correct within a couple of months.

Hey, i'm 13, and i just started noticing it within the laat year. It seems like the bone that sticks out is a bone that everyone has, it's just that mine is sort of sideways... it doesn't bother me physically (it doesn't hurt or anything..) but it annoys me that i have this oddly shaped chest. My ribs also stick out in some pleaces. I'm not like underweight or anything, but i'm sort of skinny. I'm hoping this straightens out as i get older. But i'm worred it may be a genetic thing that i'll just have to live with.. O.o

Its something not to worry about and will get better over time most of the time. I've had it for years and it has gotten better and hasnt hindered me at all. I've dated most of the fine girls I know im my town and nobody has ever noticed. I played football with it for years and now that I am 19 and have lifted weights for years it is almost unnoticabe until I suck in. I got mine maybe around 15 so in four years its almost unnoticable. it honestly looks like an ab if i flex slightly. So don't sweat it, get your confidence up and live life! in my case lifting weights for 5 yearsd has definately helped alot.

I have the same thing, I am 15. This does not seem unnatural for people around my age, considering I hit puberty fast.

I'm also 15, but I'm incredibly scrawny as well. I look like a skeleton, to be honest. Though, my metabolism is incredibly high/fast/whatever so it is hard to gain weight. I just want to fix this because it is somewhat noticeable, and makes me feel very self conscious. Thanks.

I am also a 15 male but I have actually had a petruding chest ever since I was born. Some people call it a chicken breast or something like that. I hope there is a cure for this because I want to have a flat chest with my flat belly. After reading these, I am glad I am not the only one with this problem.

I'm 16 and my sternum sticks out, but I don't feel too self-conscious about it. Although I have had a few friends call me out on it, I just laugh it off and turn it into a joke. So, for all you teens who have this, stop worrying so much. You have more important things like your future to think about, and eventually people are going t become mature and stop talking about it, or they just won't matter. So enough worrying about this, go find a hobby and stop worrying, because you were born with it. Everyone has that one thing that they would like to change about themselves, but as there isn't much we can do about it, just go out and live your life.

Yeh mate im 16 and have had the same prob since i was around 13. I bothered me at first so i got it checked and the best my doctor could do was say it was probable that i had fractured a rib sometime and my sturnum had over compensated in its healing prosess. Anyway if its bothered you simple go to the gym and focus on peck muscles and ab muscles like i did and it just make you look even bigger. Hope i helped anyone :)

The only way to build muscle is by lifting heavy weights with compound exercises. Use mainly barbells and do not do dumbell flys. Focus on the bench press, close grip bench press, and do lots of suspended dips along with pulling movements like wide grip pull ups to a less extent but still very important. Also if u can, do 3 sets each of heavy squats and deadlifts twice a week if u cannot try different leg press machines. By heavy weights i mean push to your point of failure every set and do no more than 14 repetitions. Your muscles need heavy weights to strain them until they rip. light weights will not tear muscle neither will training before failure. Also, do NOT do one sided exercises. When u do barbell benches ur weaker muscle (smaller miscle) will get trained as much as the bigger one but since it is weaker it feels much more strain. And btw the left chest and sternum is bigger for everyone than the right because you heart resides on your left side, very close if not behind the sternum, it is just that urs might be slightly closer to being behind the sternum.

I just noticed my portruding sternum mid of last year 2012 when I was 44! Must be a late bloomer.

I am pretty certain that there was no protrusion prior to that time which is puzzling. Initially did not cause me any discomfort but over the last couple of weeks there has been this pressure whenever I lie or sit down.

I am just worried that this will grow into the paths of the internal organs. Probably gonna get an x-ray and see how thinhgs are.
