I need information related to a disease that affects animals. It’s melioidosis, caused by bacteria pseudomalei. Can humans contract this disease? How is it spread? How dangerous can it be and is it treated successfully? Thanks.

Melioidosis is endemic disease in south-east Asia. It affects both humans and animals. It’s also known like Whitmore disease. This bacterium is distributed widely in the water and soil in tropics. There are in fact two bacteria called pseudomonas pseudomallei and burkholderia pseudomallei. They produce similar symptoms.
