Please tell me something about small poks disease. I’ve heard that it’s the only disease that was globally eradicated. I’m curious to hear more about it. What type of virus is its causal agent? Was it highly contagious infection and how was it spread?

Last case of smallpox was diagnosed id 1977. It’s really the only disease that was globally eradicated till now. That infection didn’t have reservoir in animals and wasn’t spread by vector. Symptoms were high fever, headache, vomiting and progressive rush. It was eradicated through worldwide vaccination program. Smallpox belongs to a group of pox viruses with chicken pox, vaccinia and some other viruses that affect animals, like monkey pox is.
