How many of you, while halfway or 3/4-way through a really good book, have the temptation to flip to the last 1 or 2 chapters and spoil the ending by reading it? I sometimes have this really bad habit and it sucks once I spoil the ending for myself b/c the book doesn't seem worthwhile to read after I do it.

I'll do this if I have figured out who the murderer is or how the murder was committed. Or, if the book begins to drag and I still want to know how the author could possibly ever tie up all the loose strings.

The last time I did that was probably when I was reading Nancy Drew, when I was about 11... I don't do that anymore (skip to the end. I have read ND lately).
Of course, you have to keep in mind that I read mostly textbooks and books by Dr. Seuss, Eric Carle, and Leo Lionni...I'm about however, half-way through Atlas Shrugged and The Odyssey, and my goal at this point is to finish those someday. Maybe my next semester break.

I rarely read fiction. Most of my reading is history or biography, so I don't have reason to go to the tail end early.
I have done that with books of poetry, but for some reason the effect just isn't the same...

ill try to only read the first few sentences of the last chapter, or on the top of the last page; i dont want to spoil it completley!
its usually because whatever im reading is so good that i am too impatient to get all the way thru it first and i want to get an idea of what is to come. you know like if something bad is hapening to a character, i want to know if they are gonna make it thru or if something more disasterous is gonna happen.

Not me. If what i'm reading is that good, i don't want to skip ahead and miss anything. If what i'm reading isn't very good...i might start skimming a little, but i don't really ever skip chapters ahead.

Although I am sometimes tempted...I will not do this...It's a matter of principal.
Mrs. Coach, however, always does this. In fact she's reading the new Harry Potter, and about 1/3 of the way through, had to read the last two chapters to see how things turned out.

It's not so much a matter of principal for me. (Now cutting corners on a track--that's a :nono: for me even if it's just a pleasure run)
It is a matter of control for me. I can't control real life, but I can control my books. I can see ahead to the end. I can know in advance what happens. An excellent author will compel me to read his or her work anyway to see how they got to that conclusion. Like Harry Potter. I read the end first. I am still compelled to read all of it when Colin is done.

Oh! I want to do that...especially a horror book. I won't though. I kind of like the whole wanting to but won't let myself read the end scenerio. I never have broken down and read the end.
also, if i've read a book and see the movie, chances are the movie really sucks for me. a few have made the transition well to the big screen, but only a few.
