Hi, my mother is 57 years old and she is suffering from diabetes. Several weeks ago she started to feel pain in her legs and doctor told her that pain was caused by neuropathy. He prescribed her tegretol and it really helped her. However I have heard that tegretol is medication which may be used in treating of some other disorders like bipolar disorders so I would like to know something more about interactions with other medications.

Hi, tegretol is anticonvusant which means that he is decreasing impulses which may cause pain. Also it can be used in treating bipolar behavior disorders. It mustn't be used in the same time with MAO inhibitors same as if you are allergic on some antidepressants. However I do believe that your mother's doctor knows what other medications your mother use.
