Hi. I went for a Fusion of L5 and S1 in 2004. I recovered very well. Long process . Cycled and did spinning and scuba and motorcycling afterwards. My disc between L4 and L5 has now poped and I am going for the L4 nad L5 fusion in two weeks time. This is due to my long hours of standing I believe at work.
I know its a painfull process but I also know I am in good hands with the best surgeons.. It does get better but no picking up of heavy things and I would not suggest running. Cycle and spin etc and swim..

I had a l4-l5 tlift 2.5 weeks ago. My sciatica was gone the first day then I had some residual pain in my leg for four days but I am feeling weak but pain free pretty much. I am walking slowly a half mile a day. My staples come out in a few days. My stomache is still upside down, I had the worst nausea for the first week! Worse than the incision! Thank you de oberlander Baton Rouge.

Hi Jennifer,
I had a fusion of the L-4-5 and Laminectomy of L-3-4,L-4-5 in March 2015. I am having a very difficult time riding in a car for a length of time, difficulty in sleeping and working. I went back to work on May 1st,2015. It is how ever very depressive because of limitations. My only answer to you would be is to continue walking and moving. Sitting for long periods is very bad on the spine because it causes a lot of pressure. I guess the most important thing for me is just to (Have and keep the FAITH) that you will have improvement.

I just had l4 l5 fusion 7 days ago with rod and screws. Is it normal to feel like the rod is pushing against your back when you sit or lay down. If so, how long do you experience this.

Its all doom and gloom on here .I was terrified reading this stuff before my fusion at L4 and Lanemectomy all in one hit .Im 60 years old .I had my operation 21st November this year , took 4 over hours
Yes first two weeks were a bit rough . Now I'm walking 30 minutes in one hit , reducing the meds and went back to full time work in less than three weeks !
So please dont get too depressed reading all the negative stuff on here Its all about having a positive attitude !

You have no idea how happy this made me. I'm scheduled for 10/6 and scared to death. I was very active, 20k steps a day, and would like to regain some of that.

I am looking at the same thing you had - in 2 mo. from now. So hoping this is the right thing to do. I will soon be 63. Mine will be of the traditional open - cut through the muscle style. I've had bad bilateral sciatic pain for 10 years. Wish I could talk to you !!
