Dear all, I would like to inform u all that my 24 yrs old wife has been diagnosed as t lgl leukemia and was told to take cyclosporine. Could any body say what kind of disease is this? Is it life threatening? What is the life expectency for this disease? Your kind help and suggestion will be highly appreciated. Thanks Kamal

So, your wife was diagnosed with T cell LGL leukemia. LGL stands for large granulalymphocyte leukemia. This white blood cell disorder accounts for about 85 percent of all leukemia cases. It is often diagnosed around the age of 60 and is found in both men and women. The cause of this disease is not well understood but it is believed to be brought on by a virus or other pathogens in the environment. Researchers believe that this pathogen activates the reproduction of specific white blood cells so you end up with too many of them. According to the literature, there is great variance with survival and patients have been reported to survive anywhere from several months to having a normal life expectancy. Since very little is known at this time, treatment has to be personalized. Cyclosporin has been used on other patients with some success.
