A friend of mine has started therapy with restoril, few days ago. Recently I found that it was antianxiety medication, and than it has become more noticeable for me that some changes in his behaviour occurred. I’m interested in possibility of addiction on restoril, as it is psychoactive medication. It seems to me like it causes significant drowsiness. Is that so? Please post.

Actually, restoril belongs to group of benzodiazepines, like antianxiety drugs, but it is prescribed in treatment of insomnia. It is used as a short term therapy, to treat sleeping difficulties. That is why it seemed to you that it caused drowsiness, because restoril should cause it. In fact drug should be taken at bed time, to avoid excessive sleepiness at the day. Restoril can cause psychical dependence, like al benzodiazepines. Treatment of insomnia sometimes lasts 7-10 days, so dependence can not be developed that fast.
