I took roaccutane for six months last year after suffering from severe acne for ten horrible years (i'm 21 now). I had a history of depression so my doctor didn't want me to take roaccutane but eventually it got so bad that i couldn't go out or live a normal life. While on roaccutane I didn't get depressed once, in fact I was extremely depressed before i started and it just disappeared. Probably because I was so excited about my future with great skin. I've done more with my life in these few months with clear skin than in the ten years with it. I've moved country, started university and am also now a model. 'In your face' to all those who bullied me and called me pizzaface!
Anyway... the main reason I'm writing this is because since I stopped roaccutane I've started getting severe migraines regularly, every two weeks or so. They are fullblown and affect me so badly I can't do anything for days (a big problem if i have an exam or shoot). I never had so much as a headache in my life before roaccutane. I don't mind too much because its a tiny price to pay for the life I have now but I'd love to know if anyone else has experienced this or anything similar since taking roaccutane. thanks!

I have taken roaccutane for almost 1 year & 1/2.. Roaccutane has helped smooth my skin and make them look softer with no more red acne on my face.
I gain my self esteem, and all my officemates were amazed with the changes. Most of the girls in the office asked whether i went for facial treatment.. My answer was NO.. i didnt go for any facial treatment, i just took roaccutane 1 pil per day.
As for the emotions, roaccutane didnt affect me throughout the year. In fact i gain more confident and everyday people will ask why i keep smiling... I smile because i have the confidence in myself, i have the confidence to look in the mirror and can clearly see my face compare to previously whereby i would avoid from looking into mirror & see my face wit full of acne.
So you see, the experience that i had from taking roaccutane 1 year & 1/2 is more that i can imagine.
For me, those who said they were affected by the drugs perhaps is just from their own inner self thinking. If we think we'll get sick..then we'll get sick!! Adios!

Hey everyone, I came across this website when I was just looking for the sides effects of roaccutane and I gotta say, Im surprised that some of you had really bad experience. I started having a couple breakouts when turned 16 and yes, I felt pretty bad about myself and tried every over the counter medicine and nothing worked. I did not have a lot of acne but the few pimples that I had ruined my self-esteem and the scars that were left behind were horrible. I went to see a doctor and she told me my acne was not severe enough so I went to see another one who said the same thing because it was too dangerous. After all these disappointing appointments and waste of time, I asked my friends in France to send me a couple boxes because their children used it and they still had the prescription. I tried it and like everyone, I experienced the dry lips, dry skin a little, couple nose bleeding and the famous depressed mood. I only took one pill of the smallest dose once a day so that explained why my side effects were so limited. I only took Roaccutane for 3 months now and my face is clean and acne free. Completely glad I took roaccutane despite the side effects. I now go to college and I feel confident like I have never been my whole life. I hook up with chicks, go out, living the dream. Alright that was my story guys, hope you learn from it or maybe had the same experience. I hope you all get what you are looking for because mild acne is something no one should have to "face" (get it). It's a biologic reaction so it is not your fault and you cannot do anything about it. Either wait or treat so it is under control. Roaccutane is a great way to keep it low until your body has reach the age were your acne will stop. People say its around 21 most of the time but not always. It could be 18 and sometimes even 40 (very rare).

I am in my 4th month of Roaccutane treatment and i find it physically strenuous to say the least.I am tired alot and my skin is very dry and sensitive ALL the time.I am thirsty alot and find i get bad stomach pains if i over exert myself too.BUUUUUT.....in terms of the acne i am super super impressed.I had a form of ance not present on the face but on my body instead and found it completely dominated my life..i cant wear certain clothes and somedays the pain of them would restrict me from even putting clothes on and going outside as i was continuously very very sore and inflamed..after suffering for over 10 years i finally managed to get a doctor to prescribe me roaccutaine and was told of the side effects in great detail...i had alot of help and support in the lead up to starting them and although i describe the side effects as difficult they are no where near as difficult as dealing with the acne.!!!
I have also suffered from depression and suicidal thoughts BUT NEVER WHILE ON THE ROACCUTANE. i was worried that the roaccutaine would bring the old depressive feelings back to the surface but it has been the complete opposite as i feel better as the acne is clearing up its giving me so much self esteem...
I have found that its affected my sex drive too in a negative way as well as nose bleeds and occasional headaches but like i already said...the good outweight the bad ten fold.!
I would highly reccomend Roaccutaine but only in the most extreme cases...its not a drug to be taken lightly and is very effective when used properly with the right guidance and supervision.

You are so ignorant. You got very lucky... I don't understand why the drug is still being prescribed. I'm a 17 year old guy and I have had to have a liver transplant after taking roaccutane. Terrible drug.

Completely agree. im 5mths in, a bit of dry lips but if you moisturise and use lip balm al the time then you'll be fine. The internet is great at creating horror stories! One month in after starting I have no new spots, now I have 99% clear face with 2months to go. NO mood changes, no joint pain, no nothing. Its not as dramatic as people make out! :-) So agreed, best thing ever! (oh and im 31!)
