I am 25 years old and I have a history of bladder infections, I have been to the doctor, urologist, and have had a ultrasound of my kidney's and bladder and no signs of stones. I am currently taking Macrodantin just started 3 day's ago (need to take it for 6 months). I have been getting sharp stabbing pain in my urethra (Not all the time) and it only happens while I am sleeping and in the morning. When I urinated this morning I noticed really dark brown urine, I know that is a side effect of the medication, but also wondering if it could be another infection? Not really sure if I should contact my doctor or just wait?

Hallo,

The dark brown urine might not be only as a side effect from medication but it can also be from bleeding in your bladder or urethra. In my opinion the pain that you feel in your urethra is caused by some injury that is causing the bleeding as well. Has your doctor told you about any injuries? This can sound like some sort of ulcer. When they get infected and active they can cause bleeding. Is there a chance of sexual transmitted diseases? Sometimes these problems can be caused by onset of sexual transmitted disease. If your medications are causing you pain and urine discoloration you might want tot alk to your doctor about changing them or altering dose.
