My mother is 59 and has had these symptoms before. She says her chest feels tight and very painful to take deep breaths. The pain goes through to her back. Also her right arm hurts. What could be wrong?

Could be something called chostochondriasis (tieze) I suffer from it and it causes the worst pain sometimes that mimicks a heart attack. Anti inflamatories are needed and it is the inflammation of the cartilidge in the rib cage. A doctor will diagnose this quite quickly. Ask your mother to press on her chest bones and if they are sensitive, then this is tieze.

good luck :-)

Hello Parker,

the symptoms your mother is experiencing, from chest pain to the pain in one arm, even though have happened before, really are the symptoms that she should ask her doctor about because they are very similar to the ones that happen during heart attack. It doesn't have to mean that this is what she has experienced was heart attack, but it surely does have to be checked out.

The other very common reason for very strong chest pain that radiates toward back is gallbladder, whether it's caused by gallstones or a gallbladder attack. It does happen quite often to the women your mother's age and this is one of the things she should ask her doctor about because it's treatable.
