I have the same symptoms. The shortness of breath have me thinking is my throat going to close up. I had this symptom before the surgery, and was told it will stop after the surgery. It's only been two weeks after the surgery. Hopefully it will get better. I will continue to pray for everyone who is experiencing symptoms for a thyroid removal. Take care and God Bless.

I too had my thyroid removed because of graves... My surgery was in April, my surgeon cut a vocal nerve... He told me it might take a year before I could breath right... I ran marathons, I too have to stop to try and get air into my lungs... like a person with asthma or lung issues. Feeling your pain, hope you find a result soon. I have not yet.... But haven't pursued more Doctor input!

I can't believe I'm reading this. What all of you are saying is exactly what I have been espiriencing since my tyroide surgery.
The surgeon and the endocrinologist are telling me that they don't know why I feel this way. Tomorrow I will go back to the ENT for another text.
Reading this helped me a lot. Now I know that it does happens and I am not inventing it.

After reading so many of these, Josie I have the same concerns as you. I was on the synthroid 88mcg and than 100mcg. I'm having chest pain on the left side, along with upper back pain. I'm so afraid that I'm having a heart attack. In my opinion the Doctors are not telling us that the thyroid medication is causing our symptoms. The way they see it is we needed the surgery, but there isn't a replacement medicine invented yet, that we can take without the side effects and they decided not to tell us the truth. I googled Synthroid/ Thyroidectomy and heart attacks, and to my surprise thousand of women have had heart attacks years after their surgery while taking the replacement medication. I'm also having tinnitus (ear ringing) headaches, ankle swelling, left eye twitching and both eyes dry and itchy brittle nails, hair loss, facial swelling and body heat (not menopause). I'm pissed that not one of our doctors felt it was important to inform us prior to surgery that we would have permanent medical issues. My levels were better on the 88 mcg but the chest pain was worse, and less pain on the 100 mcg with normal levels. My doctor did not want to give me the 100 mcg because the levels closer to the low side, but I had to insist because I thought I was going into cardiac arrest on the 88 mcg. I told her she was going to kill me and document in my chart what I'm saying to you. I have to cut my synthroid in half, and take 1/2 in the am and the other 1/2 12 hours later. My doc did not warn me of any of this or how iron, calcium and antacids can prevent the meds from absorbing, and to take all vitamins 4 hours after. I'm trying to find help and answers, and pray everyday to survive this. Starting tonight I'll pray for all of us, because the doctors are not being honest with us. I'm sure they all have had patients complain about post op chest and breathing issues, yet have us believe other wise.
Good luck everyone

I'm 37 and last summer I had the left side of my thyroid removed. I have not been the same since. I've been tired, depressed, and I can't seem to think straight.

Hi .. I too had a total thyroidectomy 3 months ago. I started the breathlessness around 2 months ago along with muscle pains in my left shoulder.
I went for a scan on my shoulder and this was fluid in my joints. With the breathing issue well the doctors can't seem to find why this is happening?
I am 46 and feel like this is ruining the quality of my life. I am so glad that there is other people experiencing the same symptoms as I felt like I was going bonkers. If anyone has a remedy for this condition I would be ever grateful. If I find one I will definitely post it.

My thyroid was removed in 2013 and I have had the same experience with Dr.'s. I finally found one that tests my T4, T3, Free T4 and Free T3 along with my TSH which is way low (.02). Because the all other levels except the TSH were within normal range, he has kept me a a dose of Armour thyroid that I feel good at and can get through the day. I take 60mg in the morning and 60mg mid afternoon, I don't crash in the afternoon like I used to and I also sleep better at night. Being able to lose the weight i have gained is another story but at least I feel good. I also have the shortness of breath and feel like something is blocking my airway especially when exercising or sleeping on my side.
