I had thyroid removed and have same problems with breathing and low energy. I found when I take a boost or ensure shake I feel better after. I think it might be all the vitamins in it. So something useful that we are working on is with my Apple Watch I downloaded an app to monitor my heart rate and track it. So I found that my shortness of breath is related to my increased heart rate so I tried to duplicate it. It turns out due to the surgery there may be scar tissue or something that is compacting my airway and my artery. This is a proven side effect that is not talked about or at least wasn't to me. So I am learning that when I have shortness of breath I lean my head back to give me more Air and lean my head to the left to release pressure on artery. Doctors are too busy now to do more then damage control at least in CA, so be your own scientist and do experiements and write down every time you have shortness of breath what your heart rate is,
when the last time you ate was,
what you ate,
when you drank liquid last,
how much sleep you got,
what you were doing when it happened etc.
Find a coordination between similar things and then bring these findings to the doctor so they have something to work with and you will have better results. God bless you all and God bless medical research to prevent this for future people

My husband appreciates your post and follow up's. He is going thru the exact same thing, and is getting so frustrated. Was even told maybe it's physiological! I can assure you it isn't. We are STILL going to other doctors, with no help thus far. Hoping to find an answer someday!

I had a total thyroid removed on Jan. 12 and 5 weeks later had then I131 treatment. Going into the third day of seclusion I developed breathing difficulty. I can not breath if I am laying down or on an incline. It feels like I have reduced lung capacity and it feels as if my diaphragm freezes when I try to lay down. I have been trying to sleep in s sitting up position. If I bend over to put shoes on I have intense shortness of breath. This has ben going on for 4 weeks now!

I just had thyroid surgery 3 1/2 weeks ago. My right side was removed due to a 5CM benign nodule. I still don't have my full voice back and I am out of breath quickly. Was wondering how you fared in your recovery?
Thanks
Bonnie

I just had thyroid surgery (half removed ) Friday May 12th. It hasn't been a full week since the surgery, but I've experienced some of the same symptoms listed such as shortness of breath while talking , swallowing differently. Eating is fine but when I drink, I get choked or strangled. So annoying! I tend to get hot, headachey, and tired . When I get that way, I take a calcium pill (Tums) and rest. Only time will tell

did you ever get a diagnosis my experience is very similar with dizziness, shortness of breath and rapid heart beat/fluttering. These episodes come on suddenly and it feels terrible like something is very wrong. I had cancer and a partial removal of my thyroid. Then I took levothyroxine for 2 or 3 months after surgery, before the symptoms started. Besides these "episodes" I feel dizzy and short of breath almost every day. I've been to a cardiologist and electrophysiologist because they thought it was my heart but I'm not so sure. The timing was right after my thyroid surgery and i don't think it is a coincidence. I see others who have been having dizziness and shortness of breath as well. Did anyone have a similar experience and get a diagnosis.
