I started talking yaz about a year ago now. When i first started talking it i would spot through, and had all the normal issues one has when switching birth controls. However, I've always had asthma ever since i was a little girl, but its always been activity on set and not very bad just more of an annoyance. For the past year my asthma has gotten Much worse its begun to interrupt my everyday life, and seeing as i am a collegiate athlete its has taken a huge tole on me. My mother recently put together that my asthma didn't worsen until i had started the pill. I have a doctors appointment next week but i was just wondering if anyone has had this sort of side effect. I know it messes with your potassium, and may cause shortness of breath or heaviness, but is it possible for it to maybe worsen my pre-existing condition of asthma?

I have the same problem and I'm also wondering if it is the Yaz that has caused my asthma to become so much worse in the past few months. I've always exercised and used to run regularly but since being on Yaz (6 months) I find my asthma is much worse and I can not run far at all without stopping to catch my breath. No amount of extra training seems to improve my fitness or breathing.

I started taking Yaz almost 3 months ago and I am super annoyed. I started on Ortho Tricyclen Lo, then switched to TriNesa and now on Yaz. I went on birth control to get my periods under control and regulated (i was having 6-8 day periods with terrible clotting and a very heavy flow), and have had nothing but trouble. The birth control that I was previously taking was not helping at all. My doc put me on Yaz and at first it was going to be great. I had a regular period, a little bit shorter and definitely not as heavy. However, 2 weeks later, I started again and had a full 7 day period. That period was very light, however, but it was definitely a period. Nothing for 2 days, then it started back up again. I am on day 8 of this period. It is still super light, but I am so confused and super annoyed. I have kept taking my pill pack, I have been told my body is just adjusting to the new medication and different dose of hormones. Should I be concerned?

The only other side effects that I have had, other than the crazy non-stop bleeding, is that I am always hot. All the time! It's like I am going through menapause at the age of 22!

So, in other words, Yaz turns you into a spaz?

I feel so much better! I thought I was being paranoid but after stumbling across this while looking for Yaz side-effects, I've been convinced to stop taking this HORROR as soon as possible. This is probably the 8th or 9th bc pill I've taken and the only one that reduced my pms and flow was taken off the market - ever since then I tried everything I could think of.. with Yaz, my breasts feel like there are needles in them whenever touched (even LIGHTLY), I've gained weight and I cry for no reason.. This is the worst I've ever had. I'm sure lots of women love it but I can't live like this..
Thanks for the feedback, it was really helpful to hear that others have had problems too.

I came off the pill about a year ago after being on it for six years; my Doctor suggested I take some time off to let me reproductive system function. I recently started birth control again with Yaz and only a month in, I feel like an insane wolf lady that is ready to devour my significant other at any given moment. Seriously. Just yesterday I snapped, started a ridiculous nothing fight in the car and ended up making him pull over so I could walk home in the rain? That's just not me. I am not crazy like that. He looked scared for his life.

And in the 1 month I have been taking this pill, I've had three sick days from work due to extreme nausea and diarrhea. And the headaches are just the weirdest, they hurt so bad and they are not standard headaches. They make me nervous of blood clotting.

I think I am going to have to go back to my Doctor and try something else. Whatever is in these pills is having a major playtime with my body. Yes, my breasts are a cup-size larger and that's pretty nice but with this mood? My boyfriend will never get near them!!!

I just got off birth control all together because I was having horrible side effects!

I started off on the patch and I had been on that for about 5 years but I was so sick of the patch getting lint on it and I wanted to try the pill (I also had similar side effects on the patch as I did on YAZ just not the PMDD). So, I tried Yaz and it was horrible. I had horrible mood swings and actually I had all the same symptoms of PMDD! This site explains the difference between PMS and PMDD:

womensmentalhealth.org/specialty-clinics/pms-and-pmdd/?gclid=CNvK_pGHlJsCFRNM5QodExBlqA

It seriously felt like I was bipolar! I would be fine for a second and then absolutely devastated over anything and everything the next (complete waste of energy) ! .

It also dried me up down south! Something horrible! It dried my skin out causing it to burn and itch (I saw a doc and I had nothing wrong with me - they gave me cream which did NOT work) and I also had a pain at the beginning of intercourse as it was inserted. (THIS was the main reason why I got off of BC as my friend explained that these are exact side effects of BC)

It as well completely took my sex drive away which is not like me at all to be honest.

It definitely caused problems in my relationship…MAJOR…I became insecure, lonely, and felt completely unwanted even though he never did anything what so ever to make me feel this way…I ALMOST moved out and left him..

Anyways…ever since I got off YAZ I have been myself again which was suuuuch a relief….and I mean everything I described above instantly got better including a fabulous relationship! Now I’m just afraid to even consider trying a new BC but I need to so I am going to talk to a NEW Doc as my last one was horrible lol I hope this could help

Everyone is obviously different mentally and physically

I have only been taking YAZ for two weeks. I have not stopped bleeding since I have started the pack. I am also experiencing terrible mood swings, stomach cramps, depression, and anxiety. I'm also tired all the time, which is not like me at all. I feel the need to yell at anybody who tries to talk to me and I feel like crying all the time. I am starting to feel better today, so hopefully this is just my body's way of reacting to the new medicine and things will be back to normal soon :-)

I started taking Yaz about a month ago, and the 3rd week in I just started to bloat up like a balloon. I went from being 113 to 117 in two days, I figured that maybe I was eating too much, so I stopped eating a little bit, but it doesn't help any. I feel really tired now, I don't know if that has to do with the pills, but I stay up until 2, but the first couple weeks didn't bother me when I woke up, but now I don't want to do anything. I feel like crying a lot, but it might just be because of my age, I felt the same on Yasmine, but not like this.

I had read about the differences between Yaz and Yasmine, and there was almost no difference except a different level in a hormone, I guess just a little bit can have a big effect.

i am 34. 5' 6" , 110 lbs. am on the 3rd week of my 2nd pack of YAZ.
professional dancer. . . .more active by 5-6 times than most women my age.
i haven't taken birth control since i was 20 and for personal reasons decided to try for a few months & my doctor put me on YAZ. honestly it is pretty scary to read all the posts and complaints of girls having problems w/ this and other pills. i do not believe the pill is the best answer to birth control . .and especially not to be taken for acne or mood swings! but we are a medicated society, so. . .
i personally have experienced just irregular bleeding in the first month . . .and now the last few days much lighter than the first month. i think i bypass the nausea, etc. because i take the pill before going to sleep. have no problem sleeping. no problem getting up or feeling rested. i dance from 2- 8 -10 hours a day at times so would definitely notice if fatigue was a problem. i also am an occasional pot smoker and have noticed very little problems with my breathing/ short of breath-ness that many girls seem to note. i drink a glass or two of wine w/ dinner but am not an alcohol drinker and have noticed no problem with that either.

so far my experience has been VERY POSITIVE.
sometimes my apetite seems bigger than normal, and sometimes, smaller. i definitely have not gained any weight, maybe actually lost and my boobs have definitely filled out. i have gotten more positive compliments on my body lately and notice very little bloating when i had my very light 4 day period. i enjoy my breast which wouyld only fill up for a week a month before . . now they are full and lovely all the time.
i had short periods to begin with, and my main complaint was the cramping. now -- no cramping, but last month i did have a lil too many trips to the bathroom as women experience the intestinal discomfort at times while on their period.
otherwise, in general, so far so good.
i am hoping that by the 3rd month, the adjustment period of the hormones will be over and i will keep everyone posted.

i DO believe strongly that how you are affected by drugs, prescription or otherwise all depends on your physical and mental state BEFORE. it seems that esp. in America and UK, there is a growing culture of inactive young girls with many different physical problems as an effect of fast-food culture and the hormones placed in our meats and processed foods that we eat.
i think it is important to remember that everyone's body reacts differently to hormones/ mediactions. and take care of ourselves accordingly.

i take a multi-vitamin daily and meditate, do not eat red meat and love my greens. i have also started taking "rescue remedy" which are extracts of flowers that help stabalize emotional distress ( i live in another country and at times deal with things that 'rile' me up because i am not used to that "culture") i am very active and even ride my bike to class/ rehearsals at times. i think that the healthier you are, the less any kind of substance can throw of your emotional or physical well-b eing.

i wish the best of health to all you ladies and may we all have beautiful healthy babies when we are ready!
p.s. for those that have a mature & responsible boyfriend & don't want to use chemicals, try "PERSONA". . .digital wonder!

Hi,

I've been taking Yaz for 7 1/2 mos, and won't be continuing it due to it's myriad, nasty side effects! In short, I've been on other BCPs, and never experienced anything like the physical/mental/emotional symptoms I have on Yaz, or any other drug. It's a true terror!

I'm athletic and have never had Asthma, but since switching to YAZ, I've had 4 asthma-like episodes feeling like I was being strangled from inside and not being able to get air. One was so severe, I lost consciousness, and got an ambulance ride to the ER! They found nothing wrong and after some time on a nebulizer, released me. A healthy woman who's never had Asthma to suddenly experience severe Asthma-like attacks since beginning Yaz is highly suspect! Hope this helps you, and the very best of luck!

This sounds exactly how my current situation began. I've been taking Yaz for almost two years now. The first year was fantastic. It did an amazing job at helping to control my PMDD, and took care of my acne problems like nothing else. Everything went like clockwork. Then one month I was a few days late starting, a pregnancy test was negative and I started shortly afterward. The next thing I knew, my periods were arriving on time, but they didn't end as usual and were more clotted. Occasionally they were even discolored. The severe cramps I had before starting Yaz returned, as well as ridiculous highs and lows starting up to two weeks before my period. The pain starts just a few hours before I know I'm due. It affects my ability to function to a ridiculous extent for that first night. My whole body will hurt. I've also developed a tendency to grind my teeth, although I haven't heard of anyone else having this side effect. I take my pill later in the evening, and if I stay up too late, I suffer from horrible nausea that can sometimes lead to vomiting. Joint pain throughout my body has also worsened. Has anyone else had any of these side effects show up after having a perfectly happy first year on Yaz?

Im 22 and on my second pack of yaz. This is my first bc and do not have anything to compare it to but i haven't had any major problems with it at all! for the first 2 weeks i did feel tired and also i would randomly feel angry. However those effects went away after 2 weeks so i think it was just my body adjusting to the hormones. It does make my breasts sore and I can tell they are getting bigger, which i'm not a fan of but im sure other girls would! So after those initial 2 weeks of adjustment, my experience has been positive! But everyones different and there is no telling how each individual's body is going to handle different types of bc until they try it!

I'm 21, 5'9 (yeah I'm pretty tall), 260 lbs(thanks to depo). Yaz is the first bc pill I've ever had, anything's better than Depo! I went from 215 to 260 within two years and I still can't completely lose all this weight! I'm at the beginning of the last week for it and it's 6:04 am as I'm writing this and I have not gone to bed yet. I'm exhausted but I can't get to sleep because for some dumb reason, I have all my period cramps (which happen near the underside of my hips where the leg connects) and no period. I'm hyper paranoid over this because I've done it once with my bf and I've missed three pills total, each on a different line (or should be if I hadn't taken the wrong tuesday pill XD). Of course it could be the anxiety I'm showing. I've had headaches off and on, usually minor but this last friday, I had to take this week off of game because I had almost vomited and all I had was pizza (which never made me nauseaus(sp?) before). I keep showing all the little side effects of pregnancy and I'm scared.

Of course, seeing what I've read up on this, I'm starting to think this is expected. Though no emotional mood swings yet. In fact, I'm almost calmer than normal (of course it could be attributed to the unique neural chemistry I have; aka Asperger's Syndrome). All I want is for my headaches to calm down and my cramps to go away (they're horrendous anyways) and maybe for me to stop being hungry and full at the same time. XD My periods were always 5 days long, but it's 5 days of personal torture, so I hope it'll help me with not wind up being stuck in bed constantly during said periods. If it helps with regulating my periods and lessening the pain and all my side effects go away and I don't gain weight, I will be a happy person. :-)
