yes, Belly ultrasounds can tell if you are pregnant and a transvaginal ultrasound can also tell if you are pregnant. Doctors can tell if you had a miscarriage without an ultrasound if you are experiencing all symptoms of a miscarriage but they usually order an ultrasound anyways. if they cant find a heart beat through the belly , they will check for the heart beat transvaginally. two days ago i was diagonsed with a miscarriage, so heaven got my Angel. Sometimes God has other plans, and you just have to accept that. If you're pregnant, I am so happy for you. If you're having an experiencing a misscarriage or miscarriage symptoms stay strong and It's just God's way of saying it wasn't the right time.  Good luck and i hope this helps. :)
