Hi,

Had my tonsils out 17 days ago.  After the op the hospital staff suggested I eat toast immediately, this I did, and drank as much as I could.

For 2 days after the op, I actually weren't that bad.  I remember getting hiccups constantly (perhaps to the new airway) I even had to go to work to sign a new contract the next day. Day 3-8 was a nightmare.  Not only was I in a great deal of pain, I had to go to work, I barely slept too because of the sheer pain.  The medication the hospital staff gave me was co-codamel and ibuprofen.  You have to take this on the recommended times to built up the pain (still dont work though).

On day 8, I changed my medication to paracetomol and ibuprofen.  The pain has subsided , but throat wasn't 100%.  At least I was sleeping 4-5 hours.

Now on day 17, throat is still not 100%, i'm a lot better but also feel worn out having to work every day (i'm self employed).  The good thing is i've stop taking medication as dont really feel that much pain  .

What I would say is drink as much water as you can.  Use pharmaceutical mouth wash (dont sting) and take your meds, and rest as much as possible.

Reading around and through my own experiences days 3-8 are really the worst, you just have to get through it (you will).

Knowing what I know, i'd go through it again and I know i'll be 100% soon enough and have loads of energy so I can kick some ass at Ju Jitsu ! !
