I recently had a hymen remnant removed myself. It was only under a sedative but you can't feel anything afterwards. Let me tell you, it has made my whole life sooooooo much easier!

Thank you so much for that, I've had the same problem for 10 years and I told myself that 10 years is too long to have been shy. So I'm going to see a doctor next week about it. I also have a asymmetrical large labia and I've always been embarrassed about it. I'm 28 and it's time to embrace my body, it should never have taken me this long but, alas, that's what happens in a world where perfection is thrust in front of us in every magazine, film, and websites. Life is too short.

Hi ladies. These stories are really interesting and encouraging. I too was experiencing pain upon using tampons and having sex for years.... Won't go into the details but let's say I had 4 trips to the a&e in my life so they could remove tampons that had been trapped by a hymenal remnant. I only wish is known sooner what the problem really was. Anyway, surgery in March removed the remnant and luckily I healed really well. But I'm still scared to have sex or use tampons. I know the skin tag has gone. And the pain should be much less, but I'd love to know how other women who had tis surgery have found sex and tampon usage since the hymenal tag was removed? Is it better than before or does it still hurt? I know there will be habitual muscle tension but other than that I'd hope it was a bit better. Any thoughts?

Hello,  I am 67 now, and since 2005, I noticed I had this embrassing growth almost, sticking out of my vagina.  I had pap smears etc. and no other physician commented on it, so I just let it go, but it kep growing longer and bigger.  Feeling very embrassed by all this I was afraid to ask another physican, and got the same brush off.  (Not to change topics) but this isn't the first time that I had Dr.s that didn't labralate on the topic.  But meanwhile I had other medical problems that became serious and had to be taken care of...Ex. emergency spine surgery (I have 2 (6 in. titianium  bars screwed into my lower spine.  L-3, L4; L5; S1 (and between these diks, which I had none) was replaced with titianium disc. spacers.  But I also now have serious problems with my espohouse, Dysphagia, hoarseness, terrible cech pains that last for hours pr days, and of course Nausea and vomiting.  So my weight has gone down like a rocket (and I certianly wasn't trying to lose weith.)  I have aged looking so quickly, besides not beable to eat, or keep pills down etc.  Been hospitalized for weeks at a time thru the ER.  I have number of times each moth that I  have to have the GI procedure of having the baloon to open  my esophagitis with stricture and hital hernia, and other things.  But waiting for more test and seeing another GI Professor at UCSD in CA... But tp continure with the rement of growth on my vagina, it had grown and out side of my vagina.  I have had for some time how hard it is to urinate.  I mean along time.  Trying different situations, and very few times can I get a little flow, after about 20 minutes, and believe me, you feel how bad you got to go, and it doesn't happen.  I even have this problem with stool, but since I can't eat (due to my Esaphogus splinters and stricture) I haven' got a normal stool or unine flow).  But one thing I did do.  I might sound crazy, but I cut that rement or whatever it was off,  I don't belive I got it all, but I got rid of this one tha was putting pressure on somthing. Yes I kept the part that I reoved, and yes it bleed like crazy, and the pain was quick, but not anymore than than if you picked out a splinter, I justheld my breathe and cut out this inch long trouble maker.  There is more left in there that I cold see.  But myfamily Dr. couldn't believe I did this by myself, and my daughter thought I was out of my mind.  But I was able to urinate  better than I ever had in a long time.... Please understand, I don't usually look at myself this way. But something had to be done, and with all my other problems, this seemed to be the easiest and quickest method to get rid of an univited guest

Hi- Over the past several years I have been having occasional swelling on the left side of my vagina, mainly after sex. I was told it may be a swollen bartholin gland. I had no idea what that was at the time, so I looked it up online of course. There are some horror stories online. Thankfully, for me, it is not painful and goes away after a few days. Recently, I was at my gyno and she said that it looks like I may have a hymen tag remnant and that may be what is causing the swelling on that side. She thinks it is getting irritated during sex (or after wearing tight pants) and causing the swelling. She said that she can snip it off for me, either under general or local anesthesia.

I'm wondering if anyone has advice on this- is it super painful to do it with just local anesthesia? I read one post above that there was a lot of bleeding afterward. Are there any other long lasting effects?

Thanks!

If it is causing any pain, then there is a problem, period! Get it checked out! So glad women are taking things into their own heads these days and not just listening to a doctor or family member who says "ignore it."

If it isn't causing pain, but just embarrassing, then don't go through a painful surgery! Just enjoy it. Many men and women see hymenal tags as beautiful and sexy and part of a woman's uniqueness.

For proof of this, just spend a while scrolling down a couple of the sites — like ***edited by moderator*** web addresses not allowed — devoted to it. Far from some creepy fetish, or ugly embarrassment, it's celebrated as erotic. NSFW, and not for those who dislike porn, but a wonderful corrective to the stereotypical "Barbie" porn that has such a warping effect in our culture.

I've just had my hymen tags removed, one of which was quite big and looked like a fleshy polyp and two smaller ones sticking out of my vagina. Surgery was done under general anastethic. It's healing up nicely, Hopefully it will make my sexual life more pleasurable rather then very uncomfortable and painful at times. Good luck to everyone !

Hi! I am only 21 years old, but I feel I am having the same problem as you are. I went to the hospital, and they sent me right home saying "nothing was wrong". The past couple of days the pain has been so bad it's leaving me in tears. I want to go back, because clearly something is wrong but I fear they will just tell me the same thing. Do you have any advice ?? (Also, I hope your problem is solved because this is a horrific pain that I would never wish apon my worst enemy)

Hi I'm 16 and I have the exact same problem and it had caused me so much anxiety and pain especially after and during sex. I've always had a weird ball of tissue in guessing hymen remnant and it is so painful to touch it causes me so much discomfort and it's extremely painful . Did you end up getting the surgery? Did they put you under anesthesia? Also, I'm going to the gyno for the first time in a couple weeks do you think she'll know what I'm talking about when I describe the nerve ball to her? Or is there another name for it? Thank you so much for your post you saved me years of pain..

I did not end up doing anything about my issue because it is not painful and only happens sporadically. If you are in pain you definitely need to see a Dr about it. Its probably best to show your gyno rather than just describe it. Another name is Bartholin gland cyst, I believe. Good luck!

I'm 27 and just recently had hymen remenant removal surgery . There is not enough information on this so I'm sharing my experience to hopefully pass onto help someone else who may be frantically googling for information like I was. I always a string of flesh inside my vagina that would get stuck on a tampon when pulling it out but one night after sex it had snapped and I was modified to have a piece of flesh sting poking out my vagina . I went to a doctor to check out down their but she said everything was normal . Is I'll wasn happy with this so I pushed for a referral to a gynocologist . The gyno new exactly what it was hynmen remenants/ skin tag and explained it's a simple procedure however best done at the hospital incase of bleeding. I was so Kean in getting it fixed straight away in his office but instead was dissapointed to be put on a public waiting list for a local hospital . After 3 months I was called for my surgery , quick ore consultation with surgeon to discuss my health history and went in the next day . I chose not to have a general anaesthetic and went with just local anestheic. after surgery they decided I needed to stay on the night with a catheder in as one of the remenants was close to the uretha ( risk of infection). The only pain relief I was given was nurofen and panadol I must admit I did feel ok and there wasn't to much pain . It was uncomfortable for about 5 days , some bleeding and discharge but once past the week mark I finally started to feel like it was worth the process allthough draining and daunting with the full hospital procedure and recovery it's definetly worth it long term . I'm feeling so much more confident and within myself and although the removal of remenants mat be considered as minor or more costmetic surgery rather the neccesary it's well worth the process if it I'll make you feel more compfortable and confident in the end
