I'm 20 years old and for nearly 6 months now I've been having trouble getting to sleep. No matter how many hours of sleep I get one night, or how early I wake, it's still 4-5 a.m. before I can fall asleep. Like today, I could NOT sleep until 7:00 AM, knowing I had to get up at 8 to prepare for a gyn visit. After the doctor's visit I drove up to the university campus of a school I just transferred to and walked around for 4 hours in the middle of the day in the sweltering heat (in Alabama in August), running around parched with the bitter taste of procrastination (transferring, registering, whoring my body for tuition [not really]), and yet it's 1:30 in the morning, been running 17 hours off 1 hour of sleep, and still am not tired. Sometimes when I DO get to sleep, I will sleep straight through 10-14 hours without the slightest hint of interruption.

I was going to a better school upstate but because of my sleep patterns I slept through class until I had to get up for work (4/5pm) and ended up failing and not getting 1 passing grade out of 5 courses.

I haven't been to work in 2 weeks, sleep seems more important.

I've tried all the various otc Brand X "PM" formulas (though they're all the same thing... diphenhydramine i.e. Benedryl), chamomile tea, valerian tea... I just can't trick myself into getting into a "normal" routine.

I don't even know where to begin to fix it, I can't go through another semester with nothing to show for it; I'm running out of schools to put up with me. AAAHHH I was such a straight-A overachiever in highschool and I could actually function off of 5 hours of sleep or less; where has all this apathy and exhaustion come from?

Advice/guidance?
