I started having grand mal seizures at 30 years of age. I was a very slim and healthy male who worked 60 plus hours per week as a blaster for mining operations. I had smoked about a pack of cigarettes a day for about 10years. The tests performed showed a small spot on my brain conclusive to a stroke or a hard hit on the head but I wasn't given any answers. I am now 42 and been on dialantin, Depakote, and Kepra. I also have went for periods up to a year or more without any medicine because my seizures are the same either way. I can go six months without having any, to having three in one day, to twice a month in no particular order. The only neurologist I have seen treated me like an id**t. My wife was killed in a car accident and I have a daughter and a son. It scares them to death so I have been seeing my family nurse practitioner who has me on 1000mg of Depakote once a day. I also take 10mg lisinopril once a day for my blood pressure. Still smoke but am also 5ft 8 150lbs and in good shape. I have had one of these driving which I just rolled in the ditch and was very lucky and had one or two at my last couple jobs. Can't get disability and have to work and drive. I have 4 yrs in the Army out of high school plus 21 years of work under my belt as a lineman, blaster, coal miner, and construction worker. They are always pleased with my work but are afraid to be responsible for me. I need help desperately.
