Hi. Last night I went to see my friend. We were supposed to have dinner outside. However, when I came, she said she made a dinner herself. She told me later she has AIDS. I am really worried right now. I was eating at her place and she was touching all the food and stuff. Was I at risk?

Hi. No, silly. You can`t get AIDS by touching something that person with HIV has already touched. HIV is transmitted through sex, exposure to infected body fluids or tissues, from mother to unborn baby. Sometimes you can detect HIV in the saliva, tears and urine, but the risk is negligible in such case. You can`t get AIDS just like that, as you can see. People with AIDS fight all the time against prejudice. I have AIDS and I know it best. Suddenly, everybody you thought you knew, are no longer your friends. I have a very few friends now. Most of them have AIDS. I met them on my group therapy.
