I looked everywhere for information on Zoloft and weight gain. I started gaining the first month and it kept piling on. I've always been small framed and never had weight issues. I changed nothing from my habits from before Zoloft except I started excercising because of the weight. Total I gained 15lbs. That may not sound like a lot but for me it was and it was very noticeable. I got off a year ago and wanted to come back to share my experience. For me, my anxiety has not come back AND after 8 months of stopping the meds, I lost all the weight. It took a good 6 months to even budge. IT IS THE MEDICINE.

I got off a year ago and it didn't begin to budge until 6 months. Been a year now and the weight fell off around 8 months.

Thank you SO much to the two posters who wrote the weight didn't budge for 6 months. I have scoured the internet and forums for anything on the weight gain - Zoloft connection. I haven't found anything that says WHY and what CAUSES the weight gain (changes in metabolism? Changes in appetite? What is it, and why?) but we can all attest that you certainly do gain weight. I gained 30lbs in 6 weeks. I tracked everything on my phone: all workouts, all walking, all meals, my weight. 30lbs in 6 weeks.

Did Whole30, zero sugar, cardio, all of it...lost a few pounds and gained those back. It's infuriating.

I can also say that my appetite was crazy on sertraline/Zoloft...I never felt full. Ever. I craved sweets like there was no tomorrow. My appetite still hasn't quite returned to how it was before, where I actually feel full after a meal. That alone indicates an appetite/satiety/zoloft/serotonin connection.

I've been off sertraline/zoloft for about 2 months. ZERO WEIGHT LOSS SO FAR.

Thank you for the input that you do lose weight but not until about 6-8 months later. That eases my mind because of course I feel like it's my fault and I'm not trying hard enough. ;(

Anyone else have any information on actually losing the weight after Zoloft?

I have just weened myself off these after 3 years. I was on 150mg and I ended up going up 2 dress sizes and gained around 3 stone in weight. Since cutting down the dose and eventually coming off the drug I have lost 2 stone in 10 week and my appetite is much more normal.

I've been on zoloft for two years and just last year I had to up my dosage from 50mg to 100mg. Since doing so I have had a weight gain that my doctor and I cannot seem to figure out the cause of. After coming across this website and doing some other research I'm starting to think that the culprit could be the increase in my dosage as thats when I started to notice the major weight gain. I'm worried about going off of it because since being on it, my anxiety has gotten under control and I don't want to go back to the level of anxiety I had before. Guess I will be bringing this up next time I see my doctor.

Be prepared for your Dr. to react like most of ours did and deny that the Zoloft has anything to do with weight gain. It ABSOLUTELY can and did (in my case and most of ours) cause weight gain. Not in everyone, but for us, the weight is nearly impossible to get off. I've been off of 100mg for 2 months. Not a pound has budged. I gained 30 lbs in 6 weeks. My Dr. denied that it could be the Zoloft. IT IS THE ZOLOFT.

I was fat in high school and my senior year I found a passion for health and fitness and lost almost 50 pounds. However, my freshman year of college I got really sick and dropped to underweight by losing another 25 pounds. This later caused me to develop an eating disorder. I have been in recovery and got my weight to a great and healthy weight. I eat extremely healthy and exercise 6 days a week. I went on Zoloft for anxiety and the weight gain has been horrible. I eat very healthy and exercise for around 1 hour a day, 6 days a week and I gained 20 pounds in the past 6 months. It baffles me that my doctor who knows of my history of eating disorders would put me on a medication that has this symptom. Yes, my anxiety is much better but I'm getting close to an unhealthy weight and am struggling with relapsing with my eating disorder. I am going off these meds asap. Thank you for all of these posts that showed me that this medication really is the cause like I thought it was.

OKAY. Im so glad I found this page. I've been on Zoloft for about 6 months. Over the summer i didn't weigh myself until September to which I found i gained TEN LBS. I'm 5"3, 140 lb. Prior to that I was somewhere between 127-130 tops. I blamed it on the extra drinking in the summer, the occasional burger and ice cream. But then I went on a few different diets and it was very hard to shake anything off.

I tried medifast and lost just a few lbs. The moment I stopped I went right back up to 140s.

Last week I had a wakeup call. I'm only having at most 1200 cal per day, a very well-balanced and healthy diet. And yet I'm still at 140. None of my clothes fit me. I know its the Zoloft. I called my doc and he told me to reduce from 75 to 50. I did that for the last two days but I just want to get this sh*t OUT of my system. It's not worth it. For any help that anti-anxiety/depression these pills should be bringing, I feel the anxeity and depression tenfold thanks to these meds.

How long has it taken you to tapper off? I want to do it as fast as possible without these crazy side-effects or withdrawal symptoms. Please advise!!!
