Good news. I got off Zoloft a few months back, which I only needed for slight OCD. I went to the Dr. office two days ago and I lost 22 pounds without hardly trying. I have had TWO stomach staplings, so I couldn't figure out why I gained instead of lost? I had been on prozac for years and the weight kept a steady pace and finally I was back where I started. I was so depressed about that. I called my druggist and ask him if any of my meds would be causing me to gain weight and the very first thing he said was the ZOLOFT for sure. He also said Wellbrutrin didn't cause weight gain, in fact it helped you lose. it iddn't take me very long a t all to tell my doctor I researched it and would rather be on the Wellbutrin. I have been on it two days now and will monitot my progeress from now on.

I lined up Four of the 5 pound rolls of hanburger at the store along with two 1 pound rolls, just to see what it looked like, I was shocked and wondered where in the world all that had been. There is hope out there, just research the meds you take and see if there are others that can be taken without the  FAT added to the pill.

I'm done with Zoloft. I'm dealing with a 55lb weight gain. I know that zoloft is the culprit because I went to an eating disorders hospital for 2 months where my weight was not only monitored closely, but so was the food I ate. I ate normal for those 2 months and my weight didn't budge. Even the on staff nutritionist was concerned and had me start exercise, still no changes. I've put up with zoloft for 4 more months since the hospitalization and gained the last 15lbs of the 55. I'm done with zoloft. I am the largest I've ever been and that occurred 25lbs ago. As other people posted, I feel so horrible about my size that it's worse than any benefits from the antidepressant. I was taking 100mg/day. Over 1 month that is down to 25mg and I'm about to stop it. I'm not happy to read that the weight may not still budge and if it does, it will only be slowly. I'll never touch the stuff again.

I am so glad I came upon this site.  I started on Zoloft about a month ago and I have gain 10 pounds!  Before that I was on Prozac for many years and my weight fluctuated but not when I was actively trying to lose it, which I have been for awhile now.  It is awful.

Prozac had the other effect and helped me loose weight.  I just put a call in today to my doctor with the notice that I want off of Zoloft and back on Prozac.  I think the break from Prozac may make it kick back in and work for the depression again, (it stopped working after many years but I am told it can be effective again if you take a break from it).

Hello everyone,

I'm soo glad I found this site too.  And even more glad that i'm not alone in this.  I've been on zoloft for 2 years and before that i took a break and took it for 3 years and never had issues... Well from December until February i gained 20 lbs... just like that!!! i've never been so fat in my life and i want to cry! None of my clothes fit and i'm desperate to lose weight.  My doctor told me Zoloft is the culprut since I've done the thyroid tests and it's all fine!  So i've been off of it for a week now and oh my God, I cannot explain how i feel getting off of it...those brain zaps are awful, the crying spells at work out of all places, the anger issues... i'm just NOT myself.  I'm yelling at my fiancee, snapping at people and every single little thing becomes a huge issue and makes me cry!!! I originally took them for panic attacks and anxiety... and now i have no idea what to do.  Question i guess is: will the weight come off now if i exercise and eat moderately after stopping this stupid drug and then how do you deal with the side effects? go on a different meds? Anything recommended?  I'm desperately looking for answers... i feel like the only options are fat and happy or thin and really depressed/anxious.  PLEASE HELP!!!

I started taking a non-caffeinated weight loss supplement.   When I looked at the ingredients they are just vitamins, minerals and herbs.  I don't notice any anxiety or change of mood from it.  I also am on my way down off of Zoloft.  I remember coming off it years ago and I got the terrible anxiety and the electrical shocks.  I only was on it for a little over a month this time so I have not had that problem.

I think I am going back on Prozac and one of the things the doctor told me when I were switching off of it to the Zoloft was to just stop it.  So I assume it has no withdrawl symptoms and I never felt any.   And I remember the last time I was on Prozac I initially lost weight.  I was on it for years but it stopped working and that is why we switched to Zoloft.  But my doctor said that if you take a break from Prozac it will most often kick back in when you go back on it.   That is my hope.

I would ask for Klonopin or Xanax for the anxiety.  It is horrible to suffer with it.

I recently found that some sugar substitutes can also make you gain weight, YEP and also give you Aspertame POISONING. I have been on Crystal Light and Equal for over 10 years. I was starting to feel like life wasn't worth living, having signs of musclar distrophy, unable to sleep and found it was all caused by the sugar subs that are on the market. There is a Natural Sugar now that the Walmart brand of Crystal Light has JUST put on the shelves with " STEVIA" it is fropm an HERB. Can you imagine, weight gain from a sugar substitute, It's TRUE. Look up "side effects for Splenda and Aspertame, you will be SHOCKED! They can cause 92 different dieases, NOT side effects but deseases. Blindness, brain damage, if pregnant when useing, deformaty and retardation to the baby.

LOL, dont take my word for it, look it up " side effects for Splenda and aspertame" . I'm sure you can read since you read my post? I have NO reason to lie and I have researched it Very well. I was on it 10 years and recently was told about it myself. I then LOOKED IT UP MYSELF to make sure and found it to be true. I really dont care if you believe it or not, I posted it for people who are concerned about their health and want to do something about it. Besides, I did NOT say it does that to EVERYONE, I said it CAN do it.

Here is an explanation by researchers as to why people gain weight while taking SSRI's. I am currently trying to get off zoloft after having been on some type of SSRI for 15 years. This link explains why the weight gain occurs and ultimately suggests how you can avoid it. I have never purchased any of their products as I have found them to be costly. I never gained any weight instead I lost it. Nevertheless, the information may be helpful for you. I'm not certain that the ingredients in their supplement can't be purchased at a much lower cost. One of their products is simply fish oil. Good Luck.  ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed***

I am 32 and you sound exactly like me.  I bumped up to 50 mg and am pretty happy with how I feel.  I started taking it last October and have gained 5 lbs.  I am 5'5" and weigh 142 right now and my ideal weight for me is 128.  I weighed 128 for 10 years prior to turning 30...ugh  now it seems like no matter what all I can do is gain weight.

WellButrin will help you lose the weight, it helps with depression but I have slight OCD so thats why I was on Prozac and Zoloft in the first place. My BIG problems was I had a stomach years ago and because of both meds was gaining back all the weight I had lost. Now I am losing again, YEA!

I am so thankful that so many people have posted about their experiences.  I had my sixth child 10 months ago.  Now I know what people think,  after 6 kids of course you're fat.  Let me stress I have never had that problem before.  After my fifth child I was a 2/4 within 5 months after giving birth of her eating what ever I wanted.  I was in a extremely violent relationship and then almost died during childbirth so my doctor decided to put me on Zoloft for my anxiety which I now know seems to be just energy filled me.  I just now weened myself off of it as NO ONE would listen to me and I was only supposed to be on it for 3 months.  Yeah right...ten months later.  Extreme weight gain, feeling of helplessness and extreme sleep were my side effects that drove me crazy if the pill would have let it.  One night I was knocked out for almost 12 hours! I have dizziness from the withdrawals but right now it is completely worth it and surprise, I have lost a few pound in just a week.  I will NEVER blindly trust anyone and mess up my chemistry because THEY don't think I am normal.  I realize now that I am just fine with my natural body, emotions and energy and so should everyone else unless it is dangerous to themselves and others.

So far Ive been off Zoloft for about four months and got put on Wellbutrin, upon MY REQUEST. Ive lost about 45 pounds. One of the side effects of Wellbutrin is it helps people LOSE WEIGHT, YEA! as well as helps some stop smoking.   I will be 65 on the 31st of this month (Aug) and people tell me I look 30 years younger. Im single, by choice and have men in their 40's ask me out all the time.

Hi guys, im a 25year old female, 5'3. Ive been on zoloft for a yr and a half but stopped taking it a little over 6months ago...i was 45kgz when i first started taking it and by the time i stopped a few months ago i was 110kgz. Absolutely everyone I know who has been on this medication has steadily put on weight... I worked hard at the gym for about a month and lost a kilo, ive eaten right the whole time i was on the meds.

The only way I can possible shift any weight is to go on meal replacement shakes which i hate... in the last couple of months I have lost 10kgz with no exercise - only shakes.... but i find if i put a single piece of food in my mouth - i wont lose a single kilo in that month.

I'm not putting this info down to help fellow zoloft ppl lose weight - i noe how unhealthy my body is with shakes only... Im putting this down because i know i am an extreme case and need ppl to know what they are possibly getting into... If there is another drug that could possibly work for u - take it...
