I am in the same boat. Got off Zoloft 6 months ago. Not a pound has budged. I work out way harder than I ever have and I log and pay attention to my macros. I notice people say it takes time but, I'm not hopeful. Working out does tone but, has not helped me lose any of it.
I've had a hard time finding anyone that got off Zoloft and lost the weight. I just need a little hope and encouragement knowing that it's possible. I would imagine the lack of posts a year or so later after stopping Zoloft are slim because A. They have accepted the weight gain and moved on OR
B. They may of had success and not thought about sharing the their outcome.
Anyone out there that can share how long it took for them to see any changes after stopping Zoloft?

Hi - I know this was posted a while ago, so I hope things have been better for you. I'm 19, and have been on Zoloft for a year and two months. It's been a godsend for my mental health, though I've gained weight fast on it as well. I just wanted to let you know that you are absolutely not alone, and it is not your fault when other people are cruel.
Also, you'd be surprised at the amount of teenagers that are in therapy or on medication for depression, anxiety, etc. - there's nothing about it that makes you abnormal. That being said, have you been in therapy for your depression? It can be really beneficial if you find the right person.
Hope this helps.

I've been on Zoloft 100mg for about 7 months, my appetite/cravings have increased but I have not gained a single pound! I think if I were eating normally and not everything under the sun u would actually be losing weight! I think my point is that everyone is gonna respond differently, and how quickly you gain weight or lose it afterwards is gonna vary vastly from person to person, main thing is that you're feeling better xx

I took Zoloft for about a year. I run maybe 4-5 times a week and eat reasonably well. I gained nearly 20 lbs in one year and felt very sluggish anytime I worked out or ran. My resting heart rate is already fairly low because I have been running for so many years but it dropped further (along with my BP) while on Zoloft. I was always feeling exhausted and sleepy. I would doze off all the time. The meds definitely eased my anxiety and stress but the exhaustion and weight gain made me feel like it wasn't worth it. I've completely tapered off now and I can tell that my energy is starting to return. The weight has not started coming off yet but I'm hopeful that I'll readjust back to my pre-Zoloft weight.

I am 22 and have currently been on Zoloft for about 7/8 months. I went from a size 0/2 to a 5/6 in those months. The weight just kept piling on. Took me months to put two and two together. My doctor thinks I'm crazy because she said if anything I should be losing weight and only 1% of people gain the weight. I read all these reviews and hear of everyone gaining the weight and takes forever to lose it while still taking the pills. Today I stopped cold turkey. I'm hoping the weight will come off. Gaining weight just made me more upset. Would rather not take them. Not the best idea to go cold turkey but I've read so many mixed feelings about cold turkey vs slowly stopping. I just want the weight gone. Was always about 115/120 currently at 145 !!!! Zoloft you did more harm than good in my life.
Anyone else experience this?! And if so, how long did the weight stay??!

Do you have an update? I'm close to 200 lbs and on Wellbutrin now but I feel utterly horrible about how I look with this weight gain from Zoloft.

Hi, everyone I was on Zoloft for a year and a half. first started at 25mg, then after six months my body got used to it so doctor gave 50mg. after that my body got used to so I tried lexepro which was 10mg. do you see the trend here these drugs make you feel good but at what cost. I gained 35 pounds in that time period, worked out with weights 3 times a day for an hour. did cardio for 3 days 7miles. I have talked to people who used this drug and nothing but problems from weight gain, brain zaps, liver problems, heart problems , eye twitching that will not go away and so on. I believe the drug companys use these to control people and make there money. Sure popping a pill everyday is easy but you like a robot with no feelings. I felt good the first six months taking it more social, no crying but I really think Zoloft and all these drugs will have some kind of effect in the future of our health. I am off Zoloft now for six months I lost all 35 pounds that I gained. I still have anxiety and depression, I had anxiety my whole life but what you know what I don't care, this is me and I like who I am. id rather cry like a normal person then be robot and destroy my body with these drugs. The drug company is all bout making money they don't care about you. You need to get off these drugs and live your life. I believe with exercise, and eating the right foods definetly helps. I eat more fruit and vegetables now and feel great. I still eat meat and dairy but limit it. I hope I have changed some one mind here not easy by no means to get off Zoloft but you can do it and your not alone, I wish everyone the best of luck.

Welp, 30lbs in 6 weeks here. YUP. It is *absolutely* because of the Zoloft. I walk anywhere from 4-8miles a day, do yoga, weights, eliptical, and treadmill 3-7x a week. I eat small healthy meals with tons of veggies, no red meat, I neither smoke nor drink. And still gained 30lbs.
Thank you all for posting...I, like so many who have posted, wish I hadn't gone on Zoloft, especially if the 30lbs might not come off. It took me YEARS to have lost the weight I had lost, only to regain 30lbs before I could even stop the medication or realize that I even had gained weight.
Two things: I have also noticed the increased sugar cravings and inability to ever feel full while on Sertraline/Zoloft. After a lot of research, this is low serotonin, and can be addressed via amino acids & nutrient supplementation.
And two: I have read success stories in eating Paleo, Alkaline, Raw, or some combination therein. With addressing mental issues as well as losing weight caused by SSRIs. I, too, was told that it couldn't be the Zoloft by 3 different MDs/Psychiatrists. But I lead a very healthy, active lifestyle and monitor everything. Trust me. It's the Zoloft.
I'm cross tapering to Prozac (PTSD, depression & anxiety) but will eventually (within the next year) taper off completely and go back to holistic approaches. Thanks to you ALL for sharing your stories.
