Hi,
After I had one pap smear come showing I had abnormal cells and then the follow-up one 3 months after this showing I have bacterial infection (BV), my ob-gyn gave me a prescription for Flagyl and Cipro to take for 10 days and I’m scheduled for LEEP procedure in month in a half, when infection should have clear up.
I’m currently on day three of the treatment and I’m not really sure what’s the difference between Flagyl and Cipro? Would just one antibiotic be enough?

Hello,
it's not so uncommon for doctors to prescribe the combination of two or more antibiotics. That's usually the case when more than one type of bacteria is causing the infection, or when infection is affecting soft tissues.
Flagyl is good when dealing with bacteria that don't need oxygen - like the ones causing bacterial vaginosis, while Cipro treats both types of bacteria, the ones that need oxygen and the ones that don't. Your doctor most likely wants to make sure all bacteria are eliminated before your procedure.
