Very obvious first thought is simple dehydration. It is recommended that we drink up to two litres of water per day.
Without that water, the kidneys (at the lower part of our back) start to play up and become painful. In addition, our entire body relies on water for transport (blood is simply water with additives, sort of - not quite true, but we are 70% water beings).
Without the water to dilute the waste the kidneys are trying to expel, the resulting urine is strongly coloured and more noticeably smells.
Regular glasses of water are more important that simply downing a litre at lunch, and a litre at supper - most of which will be wasted and flush straight through.
