My maternal/fetal medcine doctor and pediatric cardiologist both said that if the only issue is the bright spot on the heart than most likely there is no clinical significance...Of the children born with this bright spots and down syndrome there are other things that are abnormal besides just the bright spots..The bright spots alone mean nothing..55% of ultrasounds at 20-24 find them and by 32 weeks 87% of the time they are gone...Also the position of the baby may have caused a slight reflection that may have caused them...My genetic screening came back 1:20,987 for a baby with down's syndrome and since that was so low of a risj neither of my docs are worried

I at 24 and just went through this with my daughter last week. We went for our 19 week ultrasound. The doc said they found a white spot on the babes heart and its a marker for DS. Of course i freaked out. I went for another blood test that tests the DNA of the baby through my blood. My previous blood tests came back negative and i just received word that this new test was negative as well. I did a lot of research the past week. And from what I found in medical journals is this marker is the least likely marker for DS and is on the verge of being taken off the list of markers for DS. There is no harm to the babys heart in the future and will cause no complications. There is no rhyme or reason as to why this happens, But from what found as well as talking to my doctor, as long as your blood tests come out negative and that is the only marker that comes up the likelyhood that your baby will come out with complications is very very slim. My doctor told me that many in his line of work don't even tell mothers that they have found this on the ultrasound unless there are other more severe makers, or their blood test come back abnormal.
