Hi, I am going next month to have a LEEP procedure done. I was told by the doctor that I had mild dyplaisia on most of my cervix, but recently it now shows from last colposcopy I have one area with moderate dyplaisia, that requires removal with a LEEP. Just wondering if my current copper Nova-T IUD will be able to stay in place for the procedure and if so, how affective will it be to prevent pregnancy after the LEEP, and will it be affected or have a greater chance of falling out? I think I have moderate dyplaisia on the 7 o'clock section of my cervix, but think she said she will remove not just that portion, but not totally sure. If cells inside the cervix, on the way into the uterus have to be removed to, what changes for that instance, reguarding the IUD also? Please get back, thank you.

I can tell you that if you have an IUD before this procedure that they will have to remove it first, so they will then be putting it back in after. I don't think that it will affect your chances of it falling out but it can't hurt to check with your doctor after the procedure. Let me know how it goes, okay? HOw long have you had the IUD? What time next month are you having this done?

Hi,
I have the Mirena IUD currently in and I have to go this Friday for the LEEP as well. They are not going to be removing the IUD first though. My OB/GYN said that he is going to just move the strings while he is doing the procedure so that he does not hit them. However, he did tell me that if he does hit the string by mistake, it will melt the string and then they will have to remove it which may require going into the OR.
